Single mothers are invited to meeting in West Chester
WEST CHESTER » Registration is open for the 8th annual Chester County Single Mothers’ Conference to be held April 18 at Henderson High School in West Chester. Sponsored by Benchmark Federal Credit Union, the theme of this year’s conference is “2020 Vision: Focus on Mom.”
“This is an open invitation to all single mothers — divorced, widowed, grandmothers raising grandchildren, single by choice — to register for a day that will empower and connect you with other incredible single mothers in our community,” conference co-chair
Matrie Johnson says.
“We want 2020 to be the year that single mothers in our community feel empowered and supported to reach their goals,” says Benchmark Federal Credit Union Vice President of Marketing Rebecca Worthington. “A wide range of workshops and resources will resonate with moms at all stages of life, covering everything from personal wellness to behavioral challenges for our children and achieving financial stability. The conference will have it all.”
The Chester County Community Collaborative organizes the annual conference for the more than 9,000 single mothers who reside in Chester County. The event is free to all single mothers who register and provides free child care, a continental breakfast and lunch so attendees can focus on workshops covering topics including co-parenting, entrepreneurship, dating, navigating divorce and child custody, and family finances.
An Exhibitor Hall with more than 40 resources and vendors provides information about dozens of subjects including nutrition, health, education, finance, wardrobe, resumes and more. Jewelry, essential oils, skin care and accessories will also be available.
New this year is the Benchmark Superhero Single Mom award, to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Benchmark Federal Credit Union’s title sponsorship. All Chester County residents are encouraged to share why their single mom is their superhero using the hashtag #SingleMothersCC on the Chester County Single Mothers’ Conference Facebook page found at SingleMothersCC. The winning single mom will win a $200 spa gift card, which will be awarded by Benchmark Federal Credit Union at the conference April 18.
“This year marks our fifth consecutive year sponsoring the Chester County Single Mothers’ Conference, and we want to give back to the mothers who have had to manage finances and all aspects of family life on
their own, while still providing a wonderful home life for their children,” says Worthington.
She notes that after attending one of the financial workshops that Benchmark Federal Credit Union provides at the conference, one mother substantially increased her credit within a year.
Once again this year, the Belinda Harrison Award will go to a single mother nominated by her peers who overcame adversity while working and remaining active in her community. Last year’s winner was Angela Moyer, of Coatesville.
