Volunteer firefighter aids in capture of road rage suspect in New Garden
NEW GARDEN » A local volunteer firefighter who followed a vehicle after a road rage incident helped in the capture of the suspect.
Brandon H. Zunino, 27, of Avondale was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, DUI, recklessly endangering another person, and several traffic offenses,according to Southern Chester County Regional Police.
According to police, the incident occurred on March 9, 2020 at 6:55 p.m. It began in the 700 block of
Newark Road, in New Garden Township, where another vehicle was forced off the road and into a road sign by Zunino, as he approached that vehicle from the rear at a high rate of speed.
As the victim’s vehicle was following Zunino on Thompson Road, he stopped, put his vehicle in reverse, and backed into their vehicle. He then fled the scene. Police were notified that a volunteer firefighter had followed the striking vehicle to a residence in the 300 block of Bucktoe Road, where he observed the driver enter the residence.
Police responded to this residence and located the striking vehicle. Damage from the previous collision was observed. After making contact with Zunino, he was taken into custody.
He was given an opportunity to submit to a chemical test of his blood but refused. A records check revealed that his driving privileges were DUI suspended. He was processed and was transported to Central Booking for arraignment. He was committed after failing to post $25,000 bail.
