Although Chester County is reporting that more than 200 people have died from coronavirus, the county’s effort in containing the disease remains one of the best in the region.

As of Wednesday, 213 people have died from coronavirus in Chester County, according to the Chester County Health Department. The majority of those testing positive were age 80 and over. There are 42 deaths attributed to coronavirus in Willistown Township, 34 in East Vincent, 22 in East Bradford, 18 in East Goshen and 16 in West Chester.

With the exception of one day, cases have been trending down in Chester County lately.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed May 14 there are 938 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 59,636. All 67 counties in Pennsylvania have cases of COVID-19.

The state is reporting 4,218 total deaths, an increase from the 3,943 total deaths reported yesterday. There were 44 new deaths reported overnight; the remaining 231 were reported as a result of a reconciliation of data over the past several weeks. This means the department added 275 total deaths to the data. Regionally: • Montgomery County: 5,583 positive; 23,000 negative; 587 deaths.

• Delaware County: 5,252 positive; 13,045 negative; 448 deaths.

• Chester County: 2,008 positive; 7,726 negative; 213 deaths.

• Philadelphia: 15,624 positive; 39,263 negative; 1,000 deaths.

• Berks County: 3,530 positive; 7,921 negative; 196 deaths.

• Bucks County: 4,248 positive; 12,806 negative; 395 deaths.

Chester County Government officials have extended the county’s essential services-only operation to help slow the spread of coronavirus to June 4. The county commissioners said they will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and adjust the status of essential services-only as necessary.

“The continuation of essential services-only helps to protect the health and safety of Chester County’s 2,400 full and part-time employees, as well as anyone from the public,” said Chester County Commissioners’ Chair Marian Moskowitz.
