Avon Grove celebrates Class of 2020 with parade, signs
WEST GROVE » Avon Grove high school seniors can’t have a traditional graduation this year, but they didn’t want the event pass uneventfully.
So over the weekend, more than 70 Avon Grove School District staff members, board members and administrators decorated their vehicles and drove through neighborhoods in a car parade to celebrate the class of 2020.
“As a graduate of the district, a teacher in the district and a parent in the district, I’ve never been more proud to participate in a district event,” said Jen Taylor Logue, an Avon Grove elementary special ed teacher, in a post on social media. “These kids did not get the year they deserved, but I hope they know how proud we are of them. Congratulations to the class of 2020. You will be unforgettable.”
Groups gathered in the parking lot of Avon Grove High School early in the morning to adorn their vehicles with balloons, signs and streamers, and to obtain parade routes for the occasion. With horns beeping, the car parades proceeded in all directions.
Teachers and staff members surprised each student with a visit to their home and personally delivered lawn signs to all 431 Class of 2020 graduates.
“This is one of the best days in a long time,” said Laura Bar
ton. “It was a fun way to deliver joy to our deserving seniors. I think I wore out my horn.”
Jennifer Ruoff DiFelice, an elementary school teacher in the district, said it was a memorable event.
What a fantastic day,” she said. “I was able to see some of my students I had in first grade and they are now graduating. Congratulations to all the seniors.”
This event is just one of the many festivities that the Avon Grove School District staff and administration have planned to honor and recognize each of the district’s graduating seniors.Preparations for a virtual graduation ceremony have commenced, and caps and gowns were distributed for a personalized “walking the stage” ceremony at AGHS.
The virtual ceremony will also include recordings of speeches from high school administrators and students, recognition of our seniors entering the military, the traditional changing of the guard for class officers and a special turn of the tassel.
The full version of the virtual graduation ceremony for the AGHS class of 2020 will be available for viewing on June 8 at 7 p.m. on the AGSD website at https://www.avongrove. org/agtv/commencement.
