Marcus Blair Crisman

Marcus Blair Crisman passed from this life on June 25th, 2020, at the age of 96, in Belleville Illinois.

Cremation has taken place; services will be decided at a later date.

Marcus Blair Crisman was born February 1st, 1924, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, to Marcus Blair Crisman, Sr., DDS, and Myrtle Eleanor (Wagner) Crisman, the eldest of six children. He entered the Army Air Services (later the Army Air Corps, and then the United States Air Force), in August, 1942. He became a pilot, flying C-46 and C-47 transports across the Himalayan Mountains between China and India in the Air Transport Command in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II. He made the U.S. Air Force his career, flying the Berlin Airlift in 1948, as well as many missions throughout his 25-year career, eventually accruing more than 7000 flight hours. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, serving in China and West Germany, and at Travis Air Force Base, California; Kelly Air Force Base, Texas; Haneda Air Force Base, Japan; McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey; MacDill Air Force Base, Florida; and Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. He retired at Scott AFB in 1967, and resided in Belleville, Illinois.

Marcus was awarded many decorations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Asiatic-Pacific World War II Air Medal with four Battle Stars, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal with Aircraft Clip for the Berlin Airlift, the Medal for Humane Action, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Chinese Service Commendation Medal.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Tampa University in 1964, and for many years proudly maintained his teaching certification for high school social studies. Following retirement from the Air Force, he worked for Ozark Air Lines in St. Louis, Missouri, and for the State of Illinois with Job Service before retiring in 1992. Marcus was a member of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society and the Sons of Spanish-American War Veterans.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brotherin-law William Starkey; sister Elizabeth and her husband Donald Kester; brother Bruce (Kitty) Crisman; brother Benton Crisman; daughter Elaine Crisman; son-in-law George Filcoff, and beloved wife Marie (Taras). He is survived by his sister Barbara (Tom) Werner and sister Brenda Starkey, all of West Chester, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law Margaret (Benton) Crisman of Stone Harbor, New Jersey; daughter Andrea (Craig) Starks of Riverton, Wyoming; stepdaughters Deborah Filcoff of Granite City, Illinois, and Leslie (Tom) Dumler of Houston, Texas; grandson Derek (Lindsay) Filcoff of Granite City, Illinois, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The beacons that lit his path through life were his private but deep faith, his steadfast patriotism and allegiance to the military, and his 39-year marriage to Marie, his lady, and the love and joy of his life.

Memorials may be made to the Distinguished Flying Cross Society, the USO, and the First United Presbyterian Church of Belleville, Illinois.

Owen Eugene Moffat

Owen Eugene Moffat, age 81 of Malvern, PA passed away on June 27, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Cleo M. Moffat (nee Reed), who passed away in 2017. Owen was born on October 13, 1938 in Saxton, PA to the late Thomas C. Moffat and Sarah J. Carberry. He was a graduate of Saxton Liberty High School-Class of 1957. Owen was a long-time employee of General Crushed Stone Company of Downingtown, PA, where retired as Parts Manager. He was a lifetime member of Loyal Order of Moose of Downingtown, PA. Owen enjoyed camping and hunting when his children were younger, working on cars with his nephews and was an avid NASCAR and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

SURVIVORS: Husband of the late Cleo M. Moffat (nee Reed); father of Carol McGarry (Tom), Tracy Dunphy (Chuck), and the late Kevin Lee Moffat; brother of Betty J. Fleck, and the late Thomas Moffat, Clyde Moffat, Charles Moffat, Beatrice Whitfield, Helen Oswald, and Violet Stairs; grandfather of Ashley McGarry Finley (Corey) and Charlie Dunphy; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: Relatives and friends are invited to attend Owen’s life celebration services on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at 11am at the Mauger-Givnish Funeral Home 24 Monument Avenue Malvern, PA, where friends may visit from 10-11am. Interment will follow at Covenant Presbyterian Cemetery, Frazer, PA.
