Commissioners on Labor Day: It’s been a year like no other
As we enter a Labor Day Weekend when we traditionally pay tribute to a job well done with a little time off, it must be acknowledged: This has certainly been a working year like no other. With COVID-19 upending any and all business plans, the labor market is experiencing job losses and job uncertainty at levels we never expected when we entered 2020.
For your Chester County Commissioners, it is not only a time to extend sincere thanks to our essential workers. It is also a time to express gratitude to those workers who were designated by necessity as “non-essential” — but certainly aren’t considered so.
We know that each and every worker and employer in Chester County is a valuable contributor to our economic and community well-being. For all of us, moving our county from red, to yellow, to the green phase of reopening this year has been a collective (and unending) effort to safely move forward. We appreciate you.
We also appreciate the especially critical efforts that our local restaurants, caterers, other food establishments, event organizers and many additional service-oriented businesses are putting into ensuring safety right now. As they work to demonstrate to state officials that they are ready to increase in occupancy or service – be it in percentages or actual numbers – we must do all we can to help them. Wear a mask at their establishments and in all social settings this holiday weekend and moving forward. Stay six feet apart and abide by all guidelines and requests for health and safety. The July 4th Weekend saw an increase in COVID-19 cases here and across the nation.
Together, we can work to ensure we don’t see a repeat performance. For the health of our workers and our businesses, it is the best way we can celebrate Labor Day Weekend in 2020. Josh Maxwell, Marian Moskowitz and Michele Kichline, Chester County
commissioners.
