NEW GARDEN » The Southern Chester County Regional Police Department is investigating a commercial burglary and seeking to identify the suspected culprits with the support of the public.

Just shy of the Pennsylvania-Delaware state line on Limestone Road in New Garden Township, two men robbed the family owned and operated Avon dale regional business BJS Nursery.

Founded in 1995, BJS Nursery offers designer landscapes services. During the last 15 years, the business has completed nearly 300,000 landscapes for homeowners, professional landscapers and commercial property owners in the southeastern Pennsylvanian and northern Delaware.

In addition to design and installation services, BJS Nursery sells landscape materials plus bulk sales. The business is closed on Sundays.

After seizing the stolen goods beginning 3 a.m. Sept. 15, the suspects fled and placed the contraband near the roadside of Limestone — Route 7 — according to police. Then a getaway vehicle emerged to pick up the stolen property and robbers.

After robbing the business, the two bandits sped off in the getaway-vehicle down Limestone Road en route to Delaware, at about 03:05 a.m. Sept. 15.

The first assailant, whom police described as Suspect #1, is a Hispanic man. During the robbery, he was wearing an ECKO Unlimited hoodie with distinct white elbow coloring, red-colored pants, a black Nike baseball cap, and Converse Chuck Taylor style white shoes.

He was assisted in the robbery of BJS Nursery by Suspect #2, whom police described as a taller male wearing a gray hoodie with dark gray or black seams, with a possible zipper pocket on the left bicep area of the shirt.

The Southern Chester County Regional Police Department (SCCRPD) said the suspects’ forced entry into the business and removed several Stihl chainsaws and masonry cut off saws — as well as cash.

The Avondale regional BJS Nursery operates a family-run business on the southeast edge of Pennsylvania, in New Garden, one of a just a few Chester County townships which border Delaware.

New Garden issued a community alert earlier this week with details of the incident in hopes of anyone coming forward to help identify the suspects. The Southern Chester County Regional Police Department affirms that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Anyone with information regarding the Sept. 15 robbery of BJS Nursery is encouraged to contact Detective Stephen Madonna at 610-268-2907 ext. 110, or submit a tip on Crimewatch via www.SCCRPD.org.
