Berks County’s tourism bureau recommends several seasonal landscapes for good leaf viewing, said Lisa Haggerty, marketing manager. Hawk Mountain Sanctuary: The ultimate “2-for.” Visitors enjoy spectacula­r views of the fall foliage fromthe Hawk Mountain lookouts, one of the best places in North America to watch the autumn raptor migration. The sanctuary also offers an ADA compliant trail. WWW. HAWKMOUNTA­IN.ORG/ The Pagoda: A drive or hike to the Pagoda and along Skyline Drive is a great way to take in the local colors. Train rides : Most of the area railroads offer Autumn Scenery Excursions, including Colebrookd­ale Railroad, WK&S Railroad, Reading and Northern Railroad, and the “Henry Clay” at Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine & Steam Train. Berks County country roads : Follow the bureau’s self-guided Barn Art and Covered Bridge Tours across Berks County for outstandin­g views of foliage and the changing landscapes. The tours can be downloaded from VISITPAAME­RICANA. or hard copies of the tours can be found at the bureau’s office and in hotels and display racks across Berks. Wineries: Many of the local wineries offer outdoor areas to sample wine. Sample locally grown wines while surrounded by the colors of the season. Hiking trails: Options include the Appalachia­n Trail, Pinnacle, Pulpit Rock, Nolde Forest and Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site. “We are fortunate to be surrounded by amazing hiking trails across the region,” Haggerty said. “All provide the hiker with the ability to immerse themselves in the beauty of Berks County in fall.”
