Mums sale marks start of autumn in county
WEST CHESTER » It’s officially autumn and that means it’s chrysanthemum season.
Chester County History Center presents the “Mums, Cabbages and Kale Oh My! Sale,” this week.
On Oct. 1- 3, at the History Center ( formerly known as the Historical Society), 225 N. High St., the locally grown beauties will sell for $ 15 each.
If you would like to support the History Center’s Educational Programming while adding color to your front step, you may place your order via Eventbrite https:// cchc- mumssale. eventbrite. com. You will need to click “get tickets” to choose the colors and quantities of mums – rust, yellow, burgundy, pink or white and the quantity of ornamental cabbage or kale plants.
“Sure you can buy mums at a national chain but now more than ever it is important to support small businesses,” Conor Hepp, President of CCHC, said.
The plants are provided by Londonderry Greenhouses, a family owned and operated business that prides itself on the quality of their product. Farmer Joe Kovatch says that the effects of CPOVID- 19 on their business has been rough, but through community wordofmouth, things are starting to turn around after a slow summer.
Once you place your order, you may pick up your plants from masked volunteers along Evans Alley, just north of the main History Center entrance . Orders will be ready Oct. 1 and 2, between noon and 6 p. m. and Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a. m. until 4 p. m. You may purchase plants in person as well during those times.
You may request delivery of your plants by emailing asnavely@ chestercohistorical.org or by calling andleavingamessage at 610- 692- 4800 ext. 232.
A wide selection of mums will include, rust ( orange), yellow, burgundy, pink and white mums, along with ornamental cabbage and kale. All 8 inch plants are locally grown, with approximately 18 to 22 inch heads.
Pre- orders are greatly appreciated.
