Week 2is upon us, and in this shortened season, every game takes on even more importance. And there are some big time matchups this week. Downingtow­n West starts its season after being off last week due to a positive COVID-19 test, and the Whippets will travel to Coatesvill­e to take on the Red Raiders Saturday night. Here is a look at all the Week 2matchups.

Friday AVON GROVE AT DOWNINGTOW­N EAST

Downingtow­n East will find the waters a little less deep this week, after the Cougars dropped a 27-7 decision to powerful La Salle last week. Avon Grove played Coatesvill­e very tough last week, especially in the first half, but this may be a bad time to be visiting an angry Cougar squad. Look for Stanley Bryant and Josh Asante to get a lot of work from the running back positions. The Pick: Downingtow­n East 35, Avon Grove 14

WESTCHESTE­R RUSTIN AT WEST CHESTER EAST

The Golden Knights desperatel­y need a win to keep their Ches-Mont League American Division and District 1Class 5A playoff hopes alive. West Chester East sophomore running back Mitch Ragni rushed for 174yards and three touchdowns in a 34-6Vikings win over Oxford last week. The Pick: West Chester East 27, West Chester Rustin 24

GREAT VALLEY AT KENNETT

Both Great Valley and Kennett are coming off opening week wins. Great Valley senior running back Mike Corrigan rushed for 122yards last week in the Patriots’ 20-6win over Sun Valley. Look for Kennett quarterbac­k Sam Forte to throw the ball more this week. The Pick: Kennett 31, Great Valley 21

WEST CHESTER HENDERSON AT UNION VILLE

Unionville rushed the football for 244yards against West Chester Rustin in a thrilling 35-27win last week. Unionville gave up three long kickoff returns last week andwill have to lock down in that part of the game. The Pick: Unionville 28, W.C. Henderson 14

SUN VALLEY AT OXFORD

Oxford dropped a 34-6decision to West Chester East last week. The Hornets had some chances in the Vikings’ red zone, but lost three fumbles on the night. Sun Valley gave up 163yards on the ground in a 20-6loss to Great Valley. The Pick: Oxford 21, Sun Valley 13

Saturday DOWNINGTOW NWEST AT COATESVILL­E

The Whippets get into action against a Red Raider team that downed Avon Grove, 41-10, lastweek. Coatesvill­e gained 385total yards and will severely test the Downingtow­n West defense. Ryan Waters will lead the Whippets defense. The Pick: Coatesvill­e 28, Downingtow­n West 24
