W. C. East comes back to beat Whippets in wild 5- set match

Lizzie Carr and Evie Vigilio helped the West Chester East girls volleyball team pick up a wild, come- from- behind, five- set win Wednesday night over Downingtow­n West.

Carr had 23 kills and four blocks and Vigilio had five kills and 15 digs for the Vikings, who dropped the first two sets, 25- 21 and 25- 19 before storming back to win the final sets, 25- 16, 2522, 15- 11.

MG Kerns had 10 kills, 20 digs and two aces. Elliet Manning had 31 assists, 12 digs, and five kills, and Alexa Mork had seven kills, five aces and 19 digs for East.

On the other side of the net, Downingtow­n West’s Maddie Weller had 15 kills, 15 digs and two blocks, Jenna Schuda had nine kills, 23 assists and 15 digs, and Camryn Tuffner had seven kills and three blocks. Grace Poluch had six blocks and three aces and Lilly Kendal had 18 assists, four aces and a dozen digs. UNIONVILLE 3, WEST CHESTER RUSTIN0 » AshlynWisw­all had 32 assists and Sophie Brenner added 16 kills in Unionville’s 25- 12, 25- 17 and 25- 21 win over Rustin. Jillian Murphy had five kills and Maddy Lowe had six aces to help Unionville move to 6- 0 on the season.

Sara Darlington scored twice and Hayden Wilson added the third for Unionville in the tight Ches- Mont win.

Ashlyn Carey recorded her first career point with an assist. Alex Lepore andMinna Gersbach split the shutout for Conestoga. Conestoga will face undefeated Garnet Valley on Monday night at home. KENNETT 2, GREAT VALLEY 0 » Devon Johnson and Whitney Walker scored for the Blue Demons in the Blue Demons’ second Ches- Mont win of the season over the Patriots. Emma Schwarz and Jordyn MacMillan picked up assists for Kennett, while senior Mia Gruce anchored the backline and helped secure the shutout for goalie Maddie Sears, who had 15 saves. Great Valley goalkeeper Katie Hanlon had six saves.
