Downingtow­n East girls cap perfect C- M season

The Downingtow­n East girls’ soccer team ( 8- 0) capped a perfect run through the Ches- Mont League with a 3- 0 win over Great Valley Wednesday.

Caroline McDonald began the scoring with 11 minutes to go in the first half off a Madison Shumate assist. The East defense, including Bailey Horvath, Nicky Prendergas­t, Gabi Kobel and Molly Walsh, kept Great Valley’s fast forwards at bay, only giving up two shots on goal during the game.

With 10 minutes to go in the second half, Madison Shumate dribbled past the defender and drew a foul in the box. She converted the penalty kick and extended the lead to 2- 0. With fi ve minutes to go, Eileen Hewitt served a cross in from the right side and Riley Scott buried it to seal the 3- 0 victory.

WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 1, SUN VALLEY 1 » For the Warriors ( 3- 4- 1), goalie Kennedy Stark recorded five saves and Olivia Bradley scored in the second period. WEST CHESTER EAST 2, OXFORD 1 » The Vikings got two first- half goals from Molly Smeins. For the Hornets, Alyssa Welhoff scored in the second half, assisted by Olivia Voss.

Boys Soccer

WEST CHESTER EAST 0, UNIONVILLE 0 » Strong games by both goalkeeper­s were the highlight of the evening. West Chester East keeper Johnny Regester saved a rocket shot off the foot of a Unionville player late in regulation to keep the game scoreless. Unionville goalie Jack Regenye ( seven saves) returned the favor by stopping a penalty kick with 13 seconds left in the first overtime.

CONESTOGA 8, PENNCREST 0 » Carly Hynd recorded a hat trick and Kate Galica added a goal and an assist as Conestoga defeated Penncrest 8- 0 Wednesday afternoon in a Central League matchup. Senior Paige Ziegler, Junior Melissa Hewitt and Sophomore Ashlyn Carey all tallied their first career goals in the winning effort. Alex Lepore and Minna Gersbach split the shutout in goal for the Pioneers, while Lion Goalkeeper Delaney logged a yeoman’s effort in recording 10 saves. With the win, Conestoga remains undefeated at 5- 0. WEST CHESTER EAST 5, WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 1 » Kathryn Palmer scored two unassisted goals for the winners, Anna Capelli scored on a corner. and assisted on an Ava Carnevale goal. Tyler Rice scored the Vikings’ final goal, assisted by Lydia Bechtel. The East backfield was led by Grace Treon, Carey Werley and Mia Kulp.
