Fly Fishing Film Festival goes virtual

Here are some of the virtual and in- person events taking place this weekend throughout the region:

• The Internatio­nal Fly Fishing Film Festival goes virtual this year, starting Thursday at 7 p. m. It features 10 films, ranging from six- to 16- minutes in length, from all corners of the globe showcasing the passion, lifestyle and culture of fly fishing. Admission to the festival is $ 15 and it may be accessed at https:// watch. eventive. org/ if4us/ play/ 5f4d41680c­5eff008d ddefbd. Viewers may log on to the site anytime within 48 hours of the showing. Tickets will be active for seven days. Philadelph­ia radio personalit­y and stand- up comedian Joe Conklin

will perform Saturday at 6 and 9 p. m. at Sellersvil­le Theater. In- person tickets are sold out, but tickets for the livestream­s are still available and cost $ 12.50 at etix. com. The theater also presents a Soundbooth Session featuring the award- winning Philadelph­ia folk rock band Stella Ruze on Friday at 8 p. m. on the theater’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube pages. Access is free but donations are requested. • An outdoor Fall Food Fest is set for Friday through Sunday at the Pennsylvan­ia Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg. The festival will feature many of the Pennsylvan­ia Farm Show favorites such as milkshakes, fried mushrooms, French fries, pulled pork and some food truck

vendors. The fest will be in the North Lot of the Pennsylvan­ia Farm Show Complex & Expo Center. Hours are 11 a. m. to 6 p. m. daily. Parking is free and food and beverages are for sale for grab- and- go only. Masks are required and patrons are asked to follow 6- foot social distancing while waiting in lines. Glance Film Festival, featuring a curated collection of independen­t films, runs Friday through Sunday as an in- person event at the Colonial Theatre, Phoenixvil­le, and as a virtual festival. Included are dozens of films in all genres by profession­al, first- time and student, national and internatio­nal filmmakers. The event will include a closing night awards ceremony, unique screening programs, filmmaker interviews on the red carpet and audience voting for “Best of the Fest.” Tickets must be purchased online at eventbrite. com for the in- person festival, which costs $ 100 for a full- festival pass. The Pennsylvan­ia Horticultu­ral Society will host PHeaSt: A Harvest Party 2020,

a virtual celebratio­n of good food, gardening, culture and family, on Friday from 6: 30 to 7: 30 p. m. Guests will experience a cross- cultural culinary adventure, led by Nathalie Richan, chef/ owner of the Fishtown restaurant­s Suraya and Café La Maude, who will prepare a menu based on her Lebanese grandmothe­r’s traditiona­l recipes she learned while growing up in Beirut. The Yocum Institute for Arts Education, Spring Township, Berks County, hosts “Hope Inside Change II,”

featuring works by Kristin Golden, Barton Henderson, Jill Henry, Lynn Millar, Olivia Miller, Phyllis Moser, Willie Singleton and Sybil Roe Thompson, from Friday through Jan. 8. The exhibit, which is free, seeks to document change in the way artists produce and showcase their work during the pandemic. • “Frida Kahlo: Through the Lens of Nickolas Muray,” an exhibition that provides an intimate look at Mexico’s most prolific and well- known female artist through the photograph­ic lens of her long- time friend and lover, opens Friday and runs through Jan. 18 at the Reading Public Museum, 500 Museum Road. In May 1931 Muray traveled to Mexico on vacation where he met Kahlo. The two started a romance that continued on and off for the next 10 years and a friendship that lasted until her death in 1954. The museum, 500 Museum Road, is open daily from 11 a. m. to 5 p. m. with 50% occupancy. Admission is $ 10 for ages 18- 64 and $ 6 for ages 65- plus. • The Tailgate Under the Tent series at 118 North, Wayne, presents Paris Monster on Friday at 6 p. m., followed by Boom Squad at 8: 15, and Jeff Greco on Saturday at 6 p. m., followed by Red Sammy at 8: 15. Admission is free, and the shows are all- ages.

• The American Helicopter Museum and Education Center, 1220 American Blvd., West Chester, will host author and speaker Kurt Muse on Saturday from 7 to 8 p. m., as he recounts his harrowing tale of imprisonme­nt in Panama and daring rescue by the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment in 1989. He will speak adjacent AHMEC’s Hughes MH- 6J helicopter, which was re- created from parts of the “Little Bird” that rescued him. The museum will stream the event live over Zoom. Attendees are asked to make a $ 20 donation to AHMEC to participat­e via Zoom.
