WEST CHESTER » The Fame Fire Company No. 3 of West Chester recently accepted a $ 25,000 grant from Energy Transfer through its First Responder Fund, aiding in renovations and enhancements to the fire station.

Energy Transfer is one of the largest and most diversified energy logistics companies in the country, with approximately 3,000 miles of pipeline infrastructure and gathering systems located in Pennsylvania.

“This grant from Energy Transfer has helped us renovate and expand our 47- year- old facility, which can no longer accommodate our needs,” said Fame Fire Company Assistant Chief Mark Scanlon. “These upgrades are critical to improve our response times, create a safer and more efficient environment for our dedicated firefighters, and provide protection for valuable equipment, which is currently being stored outside in the elements.”

Fame is building a twostory, 8,000- square- foot addition that includes two new bays for rescue apparatus, a gear storage room with 60 lockers, work areas for maintaining and repairing equipment, bunk rooms and restroom facilities, a training and meeting room, highefficiency HVAC systems, a generator and more.

The Energy Transfer First Responder Fund provides grants to help further the primary mission of first responder organizations, including local fire departments; emergency medical services; county emergency management agencies; county, regional and local police departments; and other eligible agencies. Grants are determined based on a competitive application and review process, and written applications are accepted on a rolling basis for the following cycle.

“One of our main priorities is supporting the first responders where we operate, whether that means offering pipeline response trainings, First Responder Fund grants, or public outreach programs,” said Joe McGinn, Vice President of Government and Public Affairs at Energy Transfer. “We are honored to provide this grant to Fame to better equip their brigade and ultimately keep the West Chester and surrounding communities safe and secure.”

The Fame Fire Company No. 3 is one of three 100 percent volunteer fire companies that make up the West Chester Fire Department. The WCFD provides fire and rescue services to the residents of the Borough of West Chester, Thornbury Township ( Chester County), and portions of West Goshen, Westtown, Birmingham and East Bradford Townships. The West Chester Fire Department covers about 26.5 square miles.
