Cookbook to benefit struggling families

KENNETT SQUARE » So far this year, the Kennett Area Food Cupboard has assisted a record 16,447 people who otherwise would go hungry. The ongoing pandemic has created a demand at the food cupboard nearly five times what it normally is. People who have never used its services are using it this year.

So the Matt Fetick Team, a Kennett-area real estate group, came up with an idea to assist the food cupboard in place of an annual holiday party. They are creating a cookbook with local recipes, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Kennett Area Food Cupboard.

“We normally do a holiday party, but we wanted to do something with a holiday theme and help the community,” said Fetick. “We’re excited to do this. We believe strongly in the community.”

The Fetick team is paying for all of the costs to produce the $20 cookbook. They plan to deliver the book by Dec. 15, in time for Christmas.

“We got some local chefs from restaurants in town give recipes,” said Fetick, adding that anyone can submit a recipe for inclusion in the book if submitted by Dec. 1.

“The (food cupboard) is providing support to hundreds of people who need food and utility relief,” Fetick said. “They are just overwhelmed. The numbers are staggering.”

The team’s goal to raise $10,000. To do that, 500 cookbooks, which will include more than 50 recipes, must be sold.

“Instead of partying with people we wanted to do our best to provide support to everyone in community,” Fetick said.

Cookbooks can be ordered at https://www. mfteats.com/ and recipes can be submitted there as well.
