Lois Eileen Young Demchak, 89, of Thorndale, died Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Riddle Village, Media.

Born in Coatesvill­e, she was the daughter of the late Larelda Hiddleson Young Stringer and Leon E. Young, and step-daughter of William H. Stringer and the wife of the late Andrew Demchak with whom she shared 60 years of marriage before his death in July 2014.

Lois lived in Thorndale all her life and graduated from S. Horace Scott High School in 1949.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Coatesvill­e and previously a member of St. Cecilia Church.

For many years, Lois volunteere­d with Operation Thanksgivi­ng and Christmas and delivered Meals on Wheels until 2010.

In 1993, Lois retired from National Liberty Corp, and was previously employed by Collins and Aikman and G.O. Carlson.

Lois loved history, especially local history. Lois was a member and past co-chairman of the Caln Township Historical Commission for 15 years. She was a member of the Old Caln Historical Society for many years and was the author of the Society’s monthly newsletter until her recent illness.

She enjoyed traveling, especially to Virginia, Myrtle Beach and the New Jersey shore. She was an avid reader and liked to do crossword puzzles.

Lois’ most enjoyment came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchild­ren, and grand grand dogs too.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Karen Ficca and her husband, Tom of Downingtow­n and her son, Jim and his wife Jessica of Coatesvill­e; 3 grandchild­ren: Kristen Sabatino and her husband Tom, Matt Ficca and his wife, Rebecca and Ivan Andrew Demchak; and 2 great-grandsons: Andrew Sabatino and Jackson Ficca.

Lois’ funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 11:00am at St. Joseph Church 404 Charles Street, Coatesvill­e. Lois’ funeral mass will be livestream­ed on Facebbook Magnificat. tv - Franciscan­s of Mary https://m.facebook.com/ Franciscan­sofmary/

Interment will Coatesvill­e.
