Klieber, Merten lead W.C. East past Henderson

Just a few days after joining the 1,000-point club, Lauren Klieber had a big night on Tuesday, pouring in 16 points to lead West Chester East to a thrilling 41-40 win over West Chester Henderson in Ches-Mont League girls basketball action.

Megan Merten added 11 for East, and had six points in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead basket in the lane with 1:13 left to give the Vikings the lead for good.

East trailed by a point entering the fourth quarter, but was able to pull out the win, despite a big night for Henderson’s Molly Manion, who had a game-high 17 points in the losing effort. Whitney Evans added 13 for Henderson and Ellie Shea had six.

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 51, SUN VALLEY 25 » Laine McGurk led the Golden Knights with 19 points as Rustin rolled to a Ches-Mont League victory, jumping out to a 21-2 lead after just one quarter and leading 31-7 at half. Elizabeth McGurk had five points for Rustin while Laney Costin, Ava Panetta and Marisa Betchyk had four points each.

RIDLEY 60, CONESTOGA 56 (OT) » Freshman Marisa Francione led the Pioneers with 19 points to go along with seven rebounds, while sophomore Kate Galica added 13 points, six boards, seven steals and four assists in the loss. Freshman Isabella Valencia had 12 points and seven boards.

Boys Basketball

BISHOP SHANAHAN 54, AVON GROVE 40 » Shanahan had four players with double-digit points in the Ches-Mont League National Division win. Zane Domsohn had 13 points, Ryan Riotto and Will O’Loughlin each had 11 points, and Ryan Smyth added 10 points for the Eagles (7-0 Ches-Mont). Reese Ziegler and Tyler Newman had big nights for Avon Grove, with 23 and 15 points, respective­ly, in the loss.

WEST CHESTER EAST 42, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 31 » Stanley Porter led a well-rounded Viking effort with nine points, while Jackson Kulp added eight, Kieran Hefferan had seven and Jack Kushner and Ryan Price chipped in five points each. Ryan Bell led Henderson with eight points, while Shawn Fay and Luke Dominick added five points each.

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 51, SUN VALLEY 26 » Mikey Williams paced Rustin with 11 points as the Golden Knights made quick work of the Vanguards in Ches-Mont American action. Jacob Barksdale followed with seven and Griffin Barrouk had six for Rustin.

UNIONVILLE 39, GREAT VALLEY 30 » The Longhorns made their long-awaited debut on the mats with a road win over Great Valley. Lucas Siepser (113 pounds), Brendan O’Rourke (138), Jacob Julier (145) and Sam Elsen (172) registered pins for Unionville. The Patriots were led by Nick Mort (152), who edged Jackson Roberts, 5-4. Stahl (160), Jake Snyder (189), Aidan O’Neill (215) and Jake Smith (285) won by fall for Great Valley.

Boys Swimming

CONESTOGA 94.5, LOWER MERION 86.5 » Luke Nagel, Raymond Welgosh and Stephen Graver went 1-2-3 in the 50 free to highlight the Pioneers’ Central League win over the Aces on Tuesday. Nagel (22.36), Welgosh (22.45) and Graver (22.63) were separated by less than three-tenths of a second in the event. Graver also won the 100 fly (54.10), with Jake Wang and James Johnson right behind in second and third, respective­ly. Graver was joined by John Yeniay, Matt Pawlow and Gary Wang to win the 200 medley relay (1:41.36). Wang won the 200 free (1:47.12), Nagel won the 100 free (47.15), and Yeniay won the 500 free (5:06.55). Gary Yang, Jake Yang, Graver and Welgosh won the 200 free relay (1:28.70) and Chris Ivory won the 100 backstroke (1:00.40).
