COPS GIVE COATS TO KIDS
Borough police officers distributing winter wear to 200 at-risk local children
WEST CHESTER >> Nearly 200 Chester County children from low-income families will receive brand-new coats courtesy of the West Chester Borough Police officers.
The police department is partnering with Operation Warm, a national nonprofit dedicated to providing warmth, confidence and hope for children in need though the gift of a brand-new coat.
“Nearly 20 pe4rcent of local kids live at or below the poverty line, and we see it firsthand,” said Josh Lee, Lieutenant, West Chester Borough Police. “This partnership with Operation Warm gives us the opportunity to emphasize our commitment to serve our community – especially this year, when more families than ever are in need.”
Through partnerships with the Chester County Crimes Victims’ Center and other local agencies, the West Chester Police were able to distribute coats to children in need.
“Our organization is rooted in Chester County so this initiative feels personal,” said Laura Cowan, Associate Partnerships Director for Operation Warm “We are so grateful for the West Chester Police Department officers and their dedication to the kids in their community.”
Operation Warm, which started years ago by Longwood Rotarian Dick Sanford, provides millions of coats to needy children in North America. Over the last 20 years, Operation Warm and its partner organizations have used the coat as a bridge for families in need to access everything from flu shots to new books.
