One in 3 vaccinated in Chester County
WEST CHESTER >> About one out of every three adults living in Chester County is now at least partially vaccinated.
Roughly 15,000 people are getting vaccinated every week in Chester County.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, 71,775 people in Chester County have been partially vaccinated, and 67,446 people in Chester County are now fully vaccinated, using the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines that are distributed to vaccine providers by the State.
That means that 139,221 people in Chester County have received at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Included in the total number above are 36,978 people who have been partially vaccinated by the Chester County Health Department, and 20,129 people who have been fully vaccinated by the Chester County Health Department.
In addition to this, approximately 11,000 teachers and educational staff in Chester County will have received the Johnson & Johnson single dose vaccine by the end of the final vaccine clinic this weekend. This is a state-led program, supported by PEMA and the Chester County Intermediate Unit.
In addition to the current vaccine clinics run by the Chester County Health Department, we
are preparing to begin our outreach to residents who may need their vaccination to take place in/at their home. Our partnerships with the Chester County Department of Aging Services, Meals on Wheels of Chester County, and the PA Department of Aging have helped us to identify hundreds of individuals, families and organizations that need the vaccine to come to them.
County officials are using teams of two – one paramedic and one EMS – to administer vaccines, and also have two mobile vaccine clinics that serve as an extension of our stationary clinics, that will be going out into communities in the comings weeks.
Over the past week, Chester County, in total, received 15,210 doses of vaccine from the state. Of that number, 9,340 were sent to the Chester County Health Department. This is made up of 7,000 Moderna first and second doses and 2,340 Pfizer first doses. Beginning Monday, March 29, vaccine clinics will be held at the following locations:
• Chester County Government Services Center in West Chester
• West Chester University’s Sturzebecker Health Sciences Center
• Kennett Square Fire Company’s Red Clay Room
• Kimberton Fire Company
• Brandywine YMCA in Coatesville (opening Tuesday, March 30th)
• Three clinics for seniors at the Phoenixville Senior Center, the Brandywine Valley Active Aging Center (formerly Coatesville Senior Center) and the Oxford Area Senior Center.
All Chester County Health Department COVID-19 vaccine clinics are by appointment only and individuals are contacted by the Health Department when they are next in the registration list to schedule the vaccine.
Those who need vaccinations at their home should call the COVID-19 call center at 610-344-6225, or email CCHD@chesco.org, to register their vaccine needs by providing their name, address, phone number and email address.
Chester County’s COVID-19 call center hours are Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported, there were 4,927 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to just over one million as of March 26.
There are 1,717 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 358 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.
The trend in the 14-day moving average number of hospitalized patients per day is about 4,500 lower than it was at the peak on Dec. 25, 2020. The current 14-day average is also below what it was at the height of the spring peak on May 3, 2020. However, the moving average of number of hospitalized patients has started to increase again.
Statewide percent positivity for the week of March 12 to March 18 is 6.5 percent.
