YMCA of Greater Brandywine hosts free Healthy Kids Day

WEST CHESTER >> It’s back!

After a hiatus in 2020 due to COVID-19, the YMCA of Greater Brandywine, an associatio­n of eight YMCA branches serving Chester County, will host three Healthy Kids Day events on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Masks are required and COVID-19 safety protocols are being followed to create the safest experience possible.

Healthy Kids Day, the Y’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being, reminds every one of the importance of staying active. One in three children in the U.S. is obese, and when summertime hits, kids are often more idle. Research shows that without access to out-of-school physical and learning activities, kids fall behind academical­ly and gain weight twice as fast.

Designed to inspire more families and kids to keep their minds and bodies active all summer long, the events feature fun and engaging activities:

Brandywine YMCA

295 Hurley Road, Coatesvill­e - 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Hosted by the Brandywine and Lionville Community YMCAs, Healthy Kids Day activities will include Zumba and yoga classes and demonstrat­ions, craftmakin­g activities, Safety Around Water lessons (Bring your bathing suit. Advanced registrati­on required—call 610-380-9622) and healthy snacks.

Jennersvil­le YMCA

880 W. Baltimore Pike,

West Grove - 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Hosted by the Kennett Area and Jennersvil­le YMCAs, Healthy Kids Day activities will include soccer matches, Zumba and yoga classes, fun fitness contests, Moon Bounce inflatable­s and more. MomPops will be giving away lots of their Popsicles, free Herr’s snacks will be given out.

Upper Main Line YMCA (UMLY)

1416 Berwyn-Paoli Road, Berwyn - 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Hosted by the West Chester Area and Upper Main Line YMCAs, Healthy Kids Day activities will also celebrate Earth Day. Activities include visits to the Nature Center and Barnyard (think goats, sheep, turtles, snakes, birds, raptors and more), hikes through the Cassatt Preserve, a seed planting station, inflatable obstacle course, hula hooping, family Zumba, dance performanc­es, scavenger hunts, tours of the summer camp site and more. Please bring a nonperisha­ble food item to donate for those who are in need.
