Frank, Oxford handle Great Valley easily

In Ches-Mont softball action on Monday, Oxford’s Maddie Frank did it all to help the Hornets topple Great Valley 17-5 in five innings. Frank went 5-for-5 from her leadoff spot (including a three-run homer) and also went the distance to get the pitching win.

Oxford opened a 7-0 lead after the first inning and wound up with 26 team hits. Cecelia Figueroa (3-3, 4 RBI) and Alaina Kargulewic­z (3-4) also had a big day at the plate for the Hornets. The Patriots got home runs from Nandita Kalyan, Ayla Steinberg and Amy Magee.

AVON GROVE 6, DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 5 » A bases loaded walk in the fourth inning put the Devils in front for good. Freshman Maddie Kelly went 2-for-3 with an RBI and senior Lauren O’Neill was 2-4. Freshman Payton Hale picks up the win in the circle, allowing four hits and striking out nine. The Cougars’ Ainsley Robinson had two hit and two steals.

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 21, SUN VALLEY 4 » The Golden Knights got home runs from Mairead Hopkins and Ally Black to overwhelm the Vanguards. Paige Bentley went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Kelly Fricker added two hits and three runs scored for Rustin. Emily Gillis notched the win, striking out three in four innings. CONESTOGA 16, RADNOR 11 » The Pioneers won this Central league shootout by rallying for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Libby Winters led the way with three runs and five runs batted in, and Allison Roessler was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Kate Clement (three hits) and Casey Kovarick (two hits, two RBIs) also contribute­d for Conestoga. KENNETT 5, UNIONVILLE 3 » The Demons raced to an early 5-0 lead and held on thanks the pitching of Genevieve Ebaugh, who allowed just one earned run and three hits in seven innings of work. Ebaugh also had two hits at the plate and so did Shannon Harvey. Lucy Brucker paced the Longhorns with two hits and two RBIs. DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 19, BISHOP SHANAHAN 3 (3 INNINGS) » The Whippets exploded for 11 runs in the third inning to put away the Eagles. Lizzie Kern paced all the hitters with four hits (and three RBIs), and Taylor Posner drove in five runs. Meghan Sinkus added three hits and two RBIs for West. Ava Laughlin had two of Shanahan’s three hits. COATESVILL­E 13, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 12 » Emma Friel’s run-scoring single with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Raiders the win. Now 3-3, Coatesvill­e got four hits from Caitlin Reynolds. The Warriors scored nine runs in the sixth inning to briefly take the lead. Jordan Melnick had three hits and Kayla Burleson had two for Henderson.

DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 5, BISHOP SHANAHAN 4 » Zach Gardner hit a threerun walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to power the Whippets past the Eagles. The blast came after a walk and a double by teammate Jack Ginsburg. Cooper Young also drove in a run and Jack Benis allowed zero runs in three innings of relief pitching. Jake McCarter led Shanahan with two hits, including a run batted in. WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 7, COATESVILL­E 2 » The Warriors led 6-0 through four innings and cruised to a Ches-Mont win. Eddie Smink had two hits and also notched the win by going six innings and striking out eight. Brett McCarthy paced Henderson with three hits. Spencer Ferquson had two hits for the Raiders. WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 7, SUN VALLEY 2 » Starter Dan Wood allowed just five hits and zero earned runs in seven innings as the Knights beat the Vanguards. Gehrig Fleming was 2-for-4 with a homer, Bryce Kelly added two hits for Rustin, and Pete Reinheimer drove in a pair of runs. OXFORD 6, GREAT VALLEY 3 » The visiting Hornets scored five runs in the top of the seventh to complete a comeback league victory. Connor Booth had three hits and knocked in three runs, and Joey Morton chipped in with two hit for Oxford. Patriots’ starter Keenan Metrick fanned 12 and allowed just four hits in five-plus innings of work. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 9, WESTTOWN 3 » The Moose fell to 3-4 overall with a non-league setback. Ewen Donald allowed six hits and eight runs in nearly four innings for work for Westtown.

DEVON PREP 5, CARDINAL O’HARA » The Tide blanked the Lions in Philadelph­ia Catholic League action. Devon Prep’s Mitchell Bramlage, Ryan Bill and Nate Kelly went a combined 36-1 in games of all three singles matches. WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 4, GREAT VALLEY 3 » In a tight Ches-Mont battle, the Knights won it thanks to a marathon first doubles victory, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, with Jacob Barksdale and Wes Greer edging John Otterbein and Justin Shin.

Boys Lacrosse

COATESVILL­E 14, UPPER DARBY » In non-league action, the Red Raiders blanked the Royals. Owen Ellis poured in five goals and added an assist for Coatesvill­e. Deyon Moreno (three goals, assist) and Tommy Ortega (two goals, two assists) also had an impact for the Raiders.
