COACH OF THE YEAR ROB BEIGHLEY, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON

Keeping a wrestling team focused and disciplined for a season is a hard enough task in a normal year, let alone one where half the schedule is wiped out and competitors have to wear masks, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. No one did a better job of preparing their team this season, and the offseason leading up to it, than West Chester Henderson’s head coach, Rob Beighley. The Warriors were dominant in the dual meet season, going 10-1, resulting in a second-place finish in the District 1Duals. That was the highest in school history, and Henderson outscored opponents 557-152for the season. Henderson chased Spring-Ford all year, finishing runner-up to the Rams not only at the duals, but at the South Sectional and Southeast Regional individual tournaments. Henderson qualified an area-high nine to the postseason and took seven to regionals. Carmen Cortese (113), Billy Wilson (126), Sammy McMonagle (145) and Koh Bauman (189) became state qualifiers for Henderson, matching a school record set in 2018. McMonagle became the third Warrior to reach states all four years and fourth twotime state medalist. Beighley’s impact has been a major one, as the Warriors have consistently become a top team in District 1thanks in large part to Beighley’s efforts in the offseasons with his club, Team Defiant. The Warriors have not lost a Ches-Mont National Division dual meet since 2018.
