D-West tops Rustin to stay in first

In a battle for a share of first place in the Ches-Mont boys’ lacrosse standings, visiting Downingtow­n West cruised past West Chester Rustin, 176, on Tuesday. The Whippets raced out to a 4-0 first quarter lead and never looked back. It was 12-5 heading into the final period and West scored five of the final six goals.

West improves to 8-0 in the league (12-2 overall) and is tied atop the standings with Downingtow­n East and Kennett. Seniors Kurt Rachau and Luke Venzie led the offense with four goals and three goals, respective­ly. The Whippets controlled possession with Michael Straub winning 17 of 23 face offs, and he added three goals. Bram Monroe and Bret Bergey each scored two goals, and Zach Rossman led the defense with 9 saves in goal.

The Golden Knights fall to 4-1, 7-2. Marek Seaman led the way for Rustin with three goals, Tucker Flynn added two goals and Owen Murray had a goal and an assist. COATESVILL­E 10, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 9 >> The Raiders won in overtime on Tommy Ortega’s goal, assisted by Owen Ellis (3 goals, 3 assists). Other Coatesvill­e contributo­rs included Alex Ly (2 goals, 2 assists), Tommy Wayne (2 goals), Logan Fleming (2 goals), Allen Gregg (4 ground balls) and Dax Shallis (11 saves). For Henderson, leaders included Dan Carnuccio (2 goals, 2 assists), Alex Romano (2 goals), Seamus Murphy (2 goals), Dan Tracy (2 goals) and Ryan Timmins (9 saves). DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 17, WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 6 >> The Whippets (122) remained unbeaten in the ChesMont, and used balance scoring (eight different goal scorers), dished out eight assists, and benefited from a suffocatin­g defense. West controlled possession with Michael Straub winning 17 of 23 faceoffs. Seniors Kurt Rachau (4 goals, 1 assist) and Luke Venzie (3 goals, 1 assist) led the offense. Michael Straub chipped in with 3 goals, and Bram Monroe and Bret Bergey each scored two goals. Zach Rossman led the defense with 9 saves in the net. For Rustin, Marek Seaman scored 3 goals and Tucker Flynn tallied 2 goals.

CONESTOGA 14, PENNCREST 9 >> The Pioneers were led by Kate Galica (7 goals, 3 draw controls, 3 ground balls), Rachel Clark (5 goals, 6 draw controls) and Piper Kienzle (1 goal, 3 assists). OXFORD 17, WEST CHESTER EAST 10 >> The Hornets were led by Alexis Reinard (6 goals, 5 draw controls), Jordan Kane (3 goals , 2 assists), Olivia Voss (2 goals, 1 assist, 5 draw controls, 3 caused turnovers), Alyssa Welhaf (2 goals, 1 assist), goalie Ashley Andrikanic­h (16 saves) and Mackenzie Clark (1 intercepti­on, 4 caused turnovers). WESTTOWN SCHOOL 3, GERMANTOWN FRIENDS 1 >> Leading the offense for Westtown (5-5, 4-0) was Carl Wagner (2-for-4, RBI), Sam Brenner (1for-3, run scored), and Jack Robinson (1-for-2, RBI). The winning pitcher was Taj Donald, who allowed no runs and two hits in four innings. In relief, Ewen Donald went three innings, allowed only four hits and one unearned run and struck out eight batters.

Softball

AVON GROVE 13, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 2 >> The Red Devils were led by Ana DiCampli (4-for-4, home run, double, 3 RBIs, 3 runs), Cait Long (4-for-5, home run, triple, 5 RBIs, 2 runs) and winning pitcher Maddie Grablewski (5 strikeouts).

Boys Tennis

UNIONVILLE 7, OXFORD 0 >> The Longhorns won all seven matches in straight sets, losing only four games. Winners were Andrew Poprik at first singles, Matt Farrell at second singles, Jack Barrickman at third singles, Colin Keenan and Ryan Megill at first doubles, Will Poprik and Nate Butler st second doubles, Jay Param and Austin Krautzel at third doubles and Thomaz Bonato and Arnab Sircar at fourth doubles.
