QUAKERTOWN >> Kulp Roofing and Construction LLC, a Bucks Countybased roofing company, is looking for a family with a roof that needs replacing.

Nominations are being accepted through May 31 for the “Kulp Gives Back” roof replacement program. The winner will receive a roof replacement and gutter installation — including a leaf protection system — at no cost to the family.

To be eligible for the new roof, the nominee must live within Kulp Roofing’s eight-county service area, which in addition to Bucks, includes Berks, Montgomery, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, and Schuylkill counties. Entrants can nominate someone they know, or they can nominate themselves.

“2020 was a difficult year as the pandemic impacted everyone in our community, including us. Being a locally owned and operated company, we felt it was important to give back to the communities that support us,” said Ryan Hogan, Kulp Roofing and Construction Inc. sales and marketing manager, adding that this is the first time Kulp Roofing has offered an initiative like this.

Nominations must be submitted using Kulp Roofing’s online nomination form. The nomination form asks for the name of the person being nominated, the person doing the nominating, the nominee’s address, contact information for the nominator and a description of why the person being nominated should get a new roof.

Entries must outline why the family deserves a new roof and gutter replacement.

Hogan said the company is looking for a compelling story. He said the final decision will be difficult, based on the nominations he has already seen.

The company began accepting nominations on April 19, and by Monday, April 26, Hogan said more than 15 nominations had already come in.

“I will consider it a success if a needy family gets something they need,” Hogan said. He added that he would be “thrilled” to get 50 nominations.

“The bottom line is, our company is giving back to the community that has supported us over the years. At the end of the day it’s about giving back to a family — we never know when it could be us in need,” he added.

Hogan said judging will be done by members of the staff at Kulp Roofing and Construction, and will will take place between June 1 and June 11, according to the rules. The winner will be selected June 14.

It’s expected the roof replacement will be completed by Oct. 31, “before the cold weather moves in,” Hogan said, adding that materials are being donated by Kulp partners: GAF, Service Partners, Leaf Relief by PlyGem, Adams Outdoor, iHeart Media, Lehigh Valley with Love Media, and Sarott Design. The labor for the roofing project is being donated by Kulp Roofing.
