Big first inning keys AG softball

The Avon Grove High School softball squad scored seven runs in the first inning en route to an 11-1 win against West Chester Henderson Friday. The Red Devils’ attack was led by Maddie Kelly (3-for-4, double, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs) and Cait Long (2for-2, triple, double, 2 walks). Melissa Sabastro ended the game in the sixth inning with a walk-off line drive up the middle. Freshman pitcher Payton Hale fanned 10 in her complete game win and only allowed two hits. West Chester Henderson’s Gabrielle Nanni scored the Warriors’ only run on an RBI single by Emma Adams. WEST CHESTER EAST 11, COATESVILLE 1 >> Viking pitcher Jess Gomez threw a three-hitter, striking out 10 batters. Carey Werley and Rebecca Crump each had three hits, while Mia Kulp, Jess Gomez, Allison Hill and Emma Pinto each collected two hits. Werley, Gomez and Pinto each hit home runs, and Werley had four RBIs.

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 11, KENNETT 1 >> Golden Knight pitcher Emily Gillis allowed only one hit, striking out 10 batters, while going 1-for-2 at the plate with a double. Other Rustin batting standouts were Kelly Fricker (3-for-3, two doubles, single), Gina Delgiorno (2-for-2) and Ali Black (2for-3, double, single). DOWNINGTOWN WEST 12, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0 >> The Whippets were led in this five-inning contest by Morgan DeFreitas (4-for-4, 3 RBIs), Anne Eliason (2-for-3, 3 RBIs, home run) and Nicole Lioumis (2-for-4, home run).

DEVON PREP 10, ROMAN CATHOLIC 2 >> Dan Brown had a hat trick for the Tide (7-6, 7-3), while Tyler Kenneson, Joe Koroly and Niko D’Alessandro each tallied two goals for Devon Prep. Liam Davies recorded six saves for the Tide.
