Daily Local News (West Chester, PA)
West Chester residents deserve transparency
In response to the letter by Timothy Megaw (Daily Local News, May 8,2010) focusing on frustrations towards our local recycling system. Specifically, Megaw wanted to revise our current 30-gallon recycling bin ordinance to include his 32-gallon bin for recycling collection.
Megaw and I spoke independently of his article and this response. We had a productive discussion, and Megaw hopes to bring this issue to West Chester Borough Council. On my end, in my capacity as Mayor, I will look into creating a more inclusive recycling program for our residents.
As mayor, I am seeking to continue the legacy of service for the environment found in so many of our community leaders, advocates, neighbors, and residents. This includes a more expansive recycling education program and a composting program in collaboration with West Chester University.
On a broader sense, I encourage any West Chester Borough residents and neighbors to reach out to me with their concerns or suggestions to improve our community.
While an opinion piece is not the most conventional way to approach a member of public office, it’s still important to focus on how those public leaders can engage and help. Do not hesitate to call me personally at 610696-1452 or email me at jnorley@west-chester.com. It’s necessary to ensure that we have open, transparent, and honest conversations.
Jordan Norley Mayor, West Chester
