Lincoln’s McNabb wins Bowie Classic in Maryland

Sophomore Nakacee McNab won the first collegiate cross country meet of her career as the Lincoln University women’s cross country team claimed the 15th Bowie State Cross Country Classic.

“It was a good ending to our regular season meets,” said Lincoln coach Roland Whiting. “It gives us good momentum heading into the CIAA championsh­ips.”

Her winning time of 22:10.5 was more than three and a half minutes faster than her previous 5K time, set at the 2019 CIAA Cross Country Championsh­ips.

Freshman Kamani Johns placed second and freshman Destiny Pierre Mathieu came in third as the Lions took the first three places. Johns finished the course in 22:17.7, while Pierre Mathieu completed the distance in 22:21.10.

On the men’s side, freshman Clayton McLaren continues to pace the Lions across the tape. He finished sixth overall in the time of 17:49.30.

Freshman Jeremy Gyan, freshman Lamar Clanton and junior Corey Muzon placed 11th, 12th, and 13th, respective­ly. Gyan paced the trio in 18:47.8, followed by Clanton (18:54.6) and Muzon (19:02.5).

WEST CHESTER 2, EAST STROUDSBUR­G 0 » Following a thrilling victory over previously unbeaten Kutztown on Saturday afternoon, the No. 24 West Chester women’s soccer team returned to action on the road at East Stroudsbur­g. Kaitlynn Haughey scored the first goal of the match in the 31st minute to give West Chester a 1-0 lead, and the Golden Rams would never relinquish their lead en route to the 2-0 victory over East Stroudsbur­g.

After a steady offensive attack, which saw West Chester take five shots through the opening 30 minutes, the Golden Rams converted in the 31st minute when Haughey used an assist from Jacqueline Hug to give the Purple and Gold an early 1-0 lead.

West Chester applied steady pressure in the second half as the Golden Rams knew they needed to add another goal, recalling their own late-game heroics from the first meeting between the two rivals. In the 66th minute, West Chester got the insurance goal it was looking for as Julia Raybold took an assist from Hug and converted for her third goal of the season to make the score 2-0 in favor of West Chester, which the Golden Rams would go on to win by.

Maddy Lowe led the way with 13 kills, Brianna Miller had nine kills and four aces and Emma Yin notched six digs.
