The following events are planned for this weekend throughout the region: • The Reading Royals minor league hockey team

will kick off its home season on Saturday with a Downtown Alive Block Party and Concert in the 700block of Penn Street, followed by the opening night game against the Norfolk Admirals at 7 p.m. in Santander Arena. The block party begins at 3 p.m. and will feature games for people of all ages and a concert featuring Brett Scallions of Fuel at 4 p.m. As the lead vocalist and longest-serving member of Fuel, Scallions fronted the band for its double platinum album “Something Like Human” in 2000. Scallions has been named a Top 100 Heavy Metal Vocalist by the former magazine Hit Parader. The block party is free. Dome, Royersford, presents the double headlining bill of Eleanor Kerrigan and Jimmy Shubert on Friday at 7p.m., and Ben Bailey on Saturday at 6 and 9 p.m. Kerrigan’s take on life comes from her unique experience­s growing up street-savvy in South Philly, as one of 10 children in a very Irish-Catholic family. Also a Philly native and son of a Philadelph­ia detective, Shubert is known for his recurring role on “King of Queens” for five years and several appearance­s on “Entourage,” before launching his film career in “Go.” Bailey, known as the man behind the wheel of “Cash Cab,” has also starred in two specials for Comedy Central and “Road Rage and Accidental Ornitholog­y” on Netflix. • The Fabulous Equinox Orchestra will present their infectious renditions of the classic American Song Book as well as jazzy retakes on contempora­ry hit tunes today at 7:30 p.m. in Schaeffer Auditorium at Kutztown University. Phils will hold a Beer Festival at FirstEnerg­y

Stadium, Reading, on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will be held in the Tompkins VIST Bank Plaza during the Battle of the Bands contest. The Battle of the Bands, which continues until 4 p.m., is a free event, but for $20 guests will be able to sample up to 40 different beers. The Justice Bros. will serve as the house band, and local original and cover bands will compete for $1,000 in prize money. • The Berks County Parks & Recreation Department and the Yocum Institute present a Harvest Fun Day on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Berks County Heritage Center. Yocum’s teen theater ensemble will perform “Legends of Berks County.” There will be games, wagon rides, jugging workshops, pumpkin painting, apple prints and sing-a-longs.

• The Miller Center at Reading Area Community College presents Five Play, the sister group of the world-renowed DIVA Jazz Orchestra, with accompanim­ent by the Reading Pops Orchestra, on Sunday at 3 p.m. From her drum set, Sherrie Maricle leads Five Play, a quintet rooted in the jazz tradition. Its repertoire is comprised of innovative arrangemen­ts of classic and contempora­ry standards, as well as original music composed and arranged by band members.
