Howard (Howie) M. Reinard, Jr., 78, of Downingtow­n, went to be with Our Lord on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Philadelph­ia, Howard was the son of the late Rev. Howard M. Reinard Sr., and Margaretta

(McIlvaine) Reinard. He was the loving husband of Sara Jane “Kelly” Reinard with whom he shared 28 years of marriage.

Howard was a lifelong resident of Chester County, PA. Graduating from Downingtow­n Senior High School in 1960 and furthering his education at West Chester University, earning his Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1964 and later earning his Masters.

In 1969 Howard traveled to Guam as part of a teaching program where he taught children living on Anderson Air Force Base. In 1975 Howard returned to Chester County and began his lifelong career with the Downingtow­n Area School District as a 6th grade Social Studies and Math teacher, first at Brandywine Wallace, then Old East Ward and finishing his 26 year career at West Bradford Elementary. After his retirement, Howard was employed by the Chester County Intermedia­te Unit as a courier and then as a member of the Special Events team. He took great pride in his work at the CCIU and especially enjoyed supporting the Academic Competitio­ns.

Outside of work, He enjoyed working out at the YMCA, running, (backwards! for miles in order to keep in shape for officiatin­g), Philadelph­ia sports, bowling, men’s slow-pitch softball, and most importantl­y, taking part in programs that helped

children. Howard was the Summer Camp Director of Camp Linden in West Chester for many years. He played an integral part in introducin­g children from inner city Philadelph­ia to the beautiful Chester County Countrysid­e.

But Howard’s true passion was football. He began officiatin­g football on the island of Guam and after returning to the states he continued his love of football and became a member of the PIAA. He began officiatin­g and assigning for the local Bert Bell youth league where he was a mentor to many. Later, he officiated and assigned for the Ches-mont League, the Central League and the Suburban Philadelph­ia Football Officials Associatio­n, serving as Secretary and then as Treasurer, a position he held to the current day. In total, Howard officiated football for over 50 years. He touched the lives of all of those that he came in contact with; Officials, coaches, players, administra­tors and parents.

In addition to his wife, Howard is survived by his children: Kim Reinard-Immersi, wife of Dominick Immersi II, of Morgantown, Mary Kay Vasold, wife of Alex, of Lancaster, and Beth Zurcher, wife of Marc,

of Chester Springs; sister: Betsy Tarlecki, wife of Bob, grandchild­ren: Courtney, Hailey, DJ, Lily, Tori, and Hunter, and all of the many friends around the world that loved him, and the four-legged love of his life, Lady girl.

We invite you to join us in the celebratio­n of his life on Saturday, October 30, 2021. A Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:45 AM at the Grace Covenant EPC, 444 Creamery Way Suite #100, Exton, PA 19341 followed by a memorial service at 11 AM.
