4 win seats on West Chester school board

Voters elected four board members to the West Chester Area School District, on Tuesday. Nine candidates sought seats in three regions. According to unofficial returns, it appears the winners are Stacey Whomsley, Laura Detre, Joyce Chester, and Karen Fleming.

With 1,663 votes still be counted county-wide at press time, Whomsley and Detre have taken the lead to fill two seats in the Region 3.

Region 3 covers Thornbury townships in both Chester and Delaware counties. Two candidates from the region were selected Tuesday. All results are unofficial until certified by Voter Services.

School Board president Chris McCune is the likely third place finisher and Carrie Stare the fourth.

Whomsley, a Republican, received the most votes and will serve on the school board with the likely second highest votegetter, Detre, a Democrat.

Anita Edgarian also ran a write-in campaign for a seat in Region 3.

With incomplete results, in Chester County, Whomsley scored 4,047 tallies or 23 percent. In Delco, she earned 1,166 votes, for a total of 5,213 votes in both counties.

McCune was the choice of 3,666 Chester County voters or 21 percent and 1,242 voters for 4,908 votes overall.

Apparent second place finisher, Detre attracted 4,324 votes for 25 percent in Chester County and 4,976 votes overall.

Stare trailed with 3,606 votes or 20 percent in Chester County and 4,162 votes overall.

Incumbent Chester won easily, with 5,339 or 62 percent of the vote, over Ada Nestor in the Region 1. Nestor collected 3,121 votes.

Fleming holds a seven point lead over incumbent Brian Gallen in Region 2, with 5,979 votes or 53 percent to Gallen’s 5,129 votes, or 46 percent.
