Downingtown West field hockey advances in states
In the first round of the PIAA 3A Field Hockey Playoffs on Tuesday, Downingtown West punched its ticket to the quarterfinals with a 2-1 over the District 11 champ, Parkland. Olivia Morraye put the Whippets on the board on a corner, and Pipe Cline notched the game-winner, stealing a ball on a 16-yard hit, and slamming home a straight shot from the top of the circle.
Goalie Kaiya Chepow had 14 saves to preserve the win. West will move on to face District 3 champ Lower Dauphin, a 4-0 winner over Great Valley Tuesday. VILLA MARIA 4, CRESTWOOD 0 » The Hurricanes move on to the class 2A quarterfinals following a shutout over the District 2 champion. The Hurricanes will face the winner of District 11 champ Southern Lehigh and Northern, the fourth place finisher in District 3.

The Whippets were knocked out of the PIAA State Playoffs, 25-14, 25-20, 18-20, 25-14. Jenna Schuda (eight kills, 14 digs, 20 assists) and Camryn Tuffner (16 kills) paced West. Grace Poluch added 10 kills and 3 aces, and Claudia Bournazel had 21 digs for the Whippets, who end the season with a 20-5 record.

In the PSAC Quarterfinals, the Marauders emerged with the win following a converted penalty kick in the second overtime period. Eric Greer (Unionville) opened the scoring for the Rams in the second half. Millersville tied it with a goal in the 82nd minute, and then won in the 108th minute on the penalty kick.
Now 13-4-2 overall, West Chester awaits its fate in the NCAA Tournament. FOUR MIGHTY MACS HONORED » Four Immaculata players were named to 2021 All-Atlantic East Conference team: Chad Catalana and John Bohrer received first team distinction, while Oldy Dielce and Jacob Fitzgerald were both voted second team.

In the PSAC Quarterfinals, the Huskies scored in the 14th minute and it would up being enough. Bloomsburg had a 5-2 edge in shots and a 4-1 advantage in corners. The Rams (11-4-2 overall) will await the NCAA Tournament Selection show scheduled for Monday evening to learn its NCAA Tournament fate.
