Macs season ends with ninth-inning loss

Immaculata’s historic 2022 baseball season came to a close on Sunday with an NCAA Regional setback in the eliminatio­n round.

The Mighty Macs took a lead into the bottom of the ninth but surrendere­d two unearned runs to drop the clash 6-5 to Keystone. Top seeded IU finished the campaign with a 2619 overall record, which included an Atlantic East Conference regular season and tournament championsh­ip.

The host Macs scored the first four runs and led 5-3 through seven innings. But No. 4 Keystone rallied late against Immaculata reliever Mason Keller. Keystone will play third seeded Ithaca (N.Y.) for the championsh­ip Monday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. (if necessary).

The Mighty Macs managed eight hits, but just one extra base hit. Junior Joey Wright had two hits and junior Joey Sacco drove in a pair for IU.

The Red Men (21) downed the Ramcon Masons (2-1) at Hoopes Park. Tommy Alexander scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch in the first inning. Tyler Harris widened the lead to 6-0 with a grand slam into the right field trees in the second inning. Harris also drove in two runs in the fifth inning on a double to the left center gap. Red Men center fielder Jack Regenye went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three stolen bases out of the leadoff spot. Gabe Mallo grabbed the win for the Tribe on the mound, working a hitless three innings to start the game. Jackson Ray took the loss for the Masons, who were paced offensivel­y by Dustin Sutton, who went 2 for 4 with a 2-run home run and 2 runs scored. ENGLUNDS 14, BARNSTORME­RS 2 » Luke Nemeth tossed four innings of no-hit, shutout baseball in his league debut and Nate Guers was a one-man wrecking crew as Englunds blasted the Barnstorme­rs. Guers hit two homers and a double among his four hits and drove in seven runs. Mike Douglas and Ryan Ficca also homered for the Clothiers, who improved to 3-1. Jon Weinstein took the loss for the Barnstorme­rs.
