SEVEN IN SEVEN

- By Michael Christopher

Welcome to Seven in Seven, where we take a look at shows coming to the region over the next week. As always, whether your musical tastes are rock ’n’ roll, jazz, heavy metal, R&B, singer-songwriter or indie, there will always be something to check out.

Here ares seven of the best on the docket for the week of Sept. 2: 1 Matt Nathanson + Donovan Woods — Friday at The Keswick Theatre It’s a double dose of singersongwriters at the Keswick on Friday as Matt Nathanson headlines in support of his most recent LP, “Boston Accent,” with support from Juno Award-winner Donovan Woods. Massachusetts native Nathanson looks back at his time in that region on the record, released in late July, hence the Bostonthemed title. Woods has his own new material out with the EP “Big Hurt Boy,” which came out in the spring.

2 Red Hot Chili Peppers — Saturday at Citizens Bank Park

The Red Hot Chili Peppers return to town following the spring release of their Rick Rubin-produced effort “Unlimited Love.” Seeing the Chilis under Major League lights will be just one of the treats for fans of the band, as the latest album sees the return — his second, actually — of guitarist John Frusciante, who had been estranged from the group for a decade. Not only that, but so prolific have the Los Angeles funk rockers been lately, that yet another record, “Unlimited Love,” will be landing on shelves in October. Corey Feldman — Saturday at Reverb Corey Feldman is back on the road with his first tour of the States in five years.

3 SOUNDCHECK

• Matt Nathanson: “German Cars”

• Donovan Woods: “Leave When You Go”

• Red Hot Chili Peppers: “I Could’ve Lied”

• Corey Feldman: “Comeback King”

• Christopher Cross: “Sailing”

• Alice Cooper: “Feed My Frankenstein”

• Hissing: “Meltdown”

• Modern English: “I Melt With You”

Yes, that Corey Feldman. Star of such legendary films as “The Goonies,” “Stand by Me” and “Friday the 13th — The Final Chapter,” the actor doesn’t just perform on the silver screen; he’s been a longtime singer and dancer. Feldman’s all-new box set titled “Love Left 2.1” is a celebration of the early years of his music career, from 1986-1994. Over four CDs and two DVDs, the set features unreleased music, a remixed and remastered version of his debut album, “Love Left,” and the sequel “Love Left 2: Arm Me With Love,” his first full-length studio album of all new music in six years.

4 Christopher Cross — Sunday at City Winery

It’s hard not to think of Christopher Cross when considering the yacht rock genre. How can you not when the Texas singersongwriter’s biggest hit is titled “Sailing”? But Cross is so much more than that, with some 10 million albums sold and a plethora of awards for his compositions to place on the mantle. Delayed by the pandemic, he’s currently celebrating 40years as an artist and performing the carefully crafted songs “Sailing” and “Ride Like the Wind” along with decades’ worth of his ever-changing but always excellent material.

5 Alice Cooper — Wednesday at Wind Creek Event Center

To say Alice Cooper is a road dog is a bit of an understatement. After wrapping successful and uninterrupted fall 2021and winter and spring 2022 runs, and following a European tour that wrapped in May, the shock rocker is back at it again. His latest tour kicks off in Bethlehem, and fans can expect Cooper’s iconic brand of rock psychodrama, which has rattled the cages of the status quo for decades, to continue to surprise and exude danger at every turn, like a great horror movie. Fitting that it comes from a master of the theatrical.

6 Modern English — Wednesday at Ardmore Music Hall

Best known for the hit singles “I Melt With You” and “Hands Across the Sea,” Modern English have survived break-ups and makeups and are on the road again with most of their original lineup intact. The UK new-wave outfit were huge in the ’80s thanks

to the nonstop airplay of “Melt,” which exploded in popularity after appearing in the 1983 film “Valley Girl,” and today retain a dedicated fanbase. The Ardmore Music Hall show will see them perform 1982’s ‘”After the Snow” LP in its entirety.

7 Hissing — Sept. 8 at Milkboy

Seattle-based extreme metal act Hissing was formed in 2014 out of the trio’s mutual interest in mutilating sounds and exploring the outer limits of black and death metal, resulting in savage displays of ominous and dissonant noisedrenched death. The group aims to desecrate expectations with each subsequent release, which has included multiple independent EPs and demos, and continues on their second full-length, “Hypervirulence Architecture.” The sophomore LP sees the band take their sound into more nightmarish, trance-inducing, mercurial and mind-altering sonic dominions, which are bound to come alive even more onstage.
