Laine McGurk leads West Chester Rustin hoopsters over Mount St. Joseph’s

Laine McGurk scored 30 points as the West Chester Rustin girls basketball team defeated Mount St. Joseph’s, 63-58, Saturday. The Golden Knights outscored Mount 20-2 in the second quarter. Rustin got 18 points from Riley Stackhouse and teammate Elizabeth McGurk chipped in with eight points. VILLA MARIA ACADEMY 55, BISHOP SHANAHAN 48 >> The Hurricanes were led by Clare Cronley (13 points), Alice Nash (12 points), Elaina Guerzon (11 points) and Ava Irvine (11 points). For Shanahan, Alyssa Brown scored 14 points and Faith Ambrose tallied 10. UNIONVILLE 37, NEW HOPE SOLEBURY 36 >> The Longhorns won their Tip Off Tournament in this overtime contest Saturday, getting 14 points each from Riley Angstadt and Elle Johnson. In overtime, Angstadt scored the eventual winning point on a free throw. ALLENTOWN CENTRAL CATHOLIC 42, DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 32 >> The Cougars’ scoring was led by Ari Smuda (10 points), Grace Hodges (six points), Charlotte Aldridge (five points) and Eileen Hewitt (five points). Against a strong Allentown Central Catholic team, East showed a good defensive effort. Three Cougar freshmen -- Charlotte Aldridge, Grace Hodges and Mya Johnson -- scored their first varsity points. OXFORD 65, CHICHESTER 13 >> The Hornets prevailed in this Lower Merion Tip Off Tournament contest. Caroline

Tipton was awarded the Oxford tournament MVP averaging 15 points a game in the tourney. Against Chichester, Tipton had 15 points, followed by Kate Kline (14) and Olivia Voss (14).

Boys basketball

STATE COLLEGE 64, WEST CHESTER EAST 43 >> The Vikings’ scoring was led by KJ Cochran (12 points), Ryan Price (10 points) and Jack Kushner (eight points). Price connected on a trio of treys. COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 56, KENNETT 42 >> The Blue Demons (0-2) held a five-point lead at one point in the third quarter but was outscored 21-11 in the final period. Reagan Pelletier led the scoring for Kennett with 15 points and was named to the all-tournament team. Conner Schumacher added 13 points for the Blue Demons. WESTTOWN SCHOOL 72, LA ACADEMIA 45 >> The Moose (4-1) got 20 points from Seyphon Triplett in this victory Friday, and teammate Matt Gilhool chipped in with 15 points. STATE COLLEGE 57, BISHOP SHANAHAN 47 >> The Eagles lost this Friday contest to State College High School in their Tip Off Tournament. It was a one-possession game until the last minute. For Shanahan, Logan Kapczynski scored 14 points, Charley Federico tallied 12 and Ben RodnerTims had 12.
