Translogistics Inc., a Berks County-based provider of transportation and logistics services, has expanded into Houston. The addition of a physical presence in Texas added to its network is expected to give Translogistics a stronger presence in the Gulf Coast region, the company said.

The expansion started in January and so far includes the hiring of three logistics experts who are based in Houston, allowing the company to better serve its customers in the area.

The new boots on the ground experts, as the company calls them, specialize in routing Less Than Truckload (LTL), Dry Van, Refrigerated, Flatbed, and Hotshot — or time sensitive — freight.

The employees are assigned to Translogistics’ Truckload operations department, and work closely with local manufacturing and distribution businesses and truckload carriers to provide customized solutions for shipper’s specific needs, according to the company.

“The Gulf Coast region is a critical transportation hub, and we look forward to serving our customers in the area with our specialized transportation employees who have extensive experience in the logistics industry,” Ron Chelli, Translogistics president, said in a statement.

The new specialized employees are equipped with the latest transportation management systems technology and tools to ensure seamless communication and coordination with the company’s customers and its carriers.

In an emailed response to questions, the company said Texas is known for its strong economy and robust transportation industry, adding that taking the company’s expertise to the region will allow Translogistics to help clients reduce cost and streamline their logistics operations.

“We are committed to providing exceptional service and customized solutions to our customers,” Rick Poulos, company vice president of operations, said in a statement. “Our truckload team in Houston, Texas, will be an extension of our quality service, ensuring that our customers’ freight is transported safely, on time, and at competitive market rates.”

Translogistics’ expansion is part of the company’s continued growth strategy. The company said it plans to continue investing in new technology while expanding its workforce in the coming months to provide better service and solutions to its many customers.

Headquartered in Birdsboro, Translogistics Inc. has a total of 62 employees, including the new Texas staff members. The company said it expects to continue adding staff to the Houston area based on growth targets for the company. In addition to personnel in Pennsylvania and Texas, the company has employees in Ohio, North Carolina, Maryland, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.

Translogistics Inc. was founded by Scott McDevitt in 1994. In an interview with MediaNews Group in May, McDevitt described Translogistics as a travel agency for freight, helping shippers manage their freight programs and make

them more efficient while reducing costs. In recent years, he said the company has added a brokerage department and an international component, increasing its customer base and enabling it to expand operations.

That growth, he said, has been intentional and well-planned.

Translogistics was named in the No. 1 spot on the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance Business Excellence awards in 2022, up from the ninth spot in 2021. The company was recognized in the category for companies with annual revenues in excess of $1 million for the past three years.
