Dems win races in northern Chesco

There were only four contested races for municipal board seats in The Mercury’s Chester County coverage area in Tuesday’s election and Democrats won them all, according to unofficial results posted on the county website.

Phoenixvil­le

There were four open seats on Phoenixvil­le Borough Council this election cycle, but only two of them are contested — in the North Ward and the Middle Ward.

Pulling in just over 78 percent of the vote, incumbent Democrat Jonathan Ewald, who is also the president of borough council, easily won reelection to his Middle Ward seat.

Of the 1,205 votes cast there, Ewald won 940 of them. His republican opponent, Republican Carol Bouche, took in 259.

In the North Ward, there were no incumbents and Democrat David Strenfel took the seat.

Out of 1,277 votes cast, Strenfel won 854, while his Republican opponent, David Wilmore, won 420.

East Coventry

One seat was open on the East Coventry Township Board of Supervisor­s and Democrat Catharine Small won it with 1,047 votes.

Her Republican opponent, Liana Gilleland collected 907 votes. A total of 1,958 votes were case.

East Pikeland

One seat was open on the three-member board of supervisor­s and incumbent Democrat Emily Gorge won it.

Out of 3,219 votes cast, Gorge took 1,840 of them and her Republican opponent Robert Stevenson took 1,267.

West Vincent

Incumbent Democrat Bernie Couris, who chair’s the three-member board of supervisor­s, won reelection in Tuesday’s election.

Couris won 1,221 votes to the 1,012 won by his Republican opponent Anthony Simonetti.
