North 5 Freeway closing in La Mirada for upgrade work

Authorities announced plans Friday to partially close a section of the northbound 5 Freeway in the La Mirada area beginning on Monday for roadway upgrades.

The closures will allow crews to re-stripe and shift traffic lanes, said Marc Bischoff of Caltrans.

The schedule, which is subject to change, is as follows:

• From 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, all lanes of northbound 5 Freeway will be closed from Artesia Boulevard to Carmenita Road

• During those times, the westbound state Route 91 connector to the northbound 5 will also be closed

• Lanes will reopen each morning

Beginning at 5 a.m. Tuesday, there will be four lanes of traffic all the way from the Orange County line to the 605 Freeway, including a carpool lane. The new Valley View Avenue loop offramp from the northbound 5 will also open. The old northbound Valley View Avenue off-ramp will close for demolition.

And beginning at 5 a.m. Wednesday, there will be five lanes of traffic all the way from the Orange County line to the 605, including a carpool lane.

Environmental report on proposed Metro light-rail line from East .L.A to Whittier to be released on Friday

Prior to the release of the environmental impact report for a proposed light-rail line from East Los Angeles to Whittier, Metro will hold virtual community information sessions Monday and Wednesday.

The EIR is expected to be released on Friday. The Zoom meetings will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Metro will share details on the maintenance and storage facilities and options on how to comment and participate on the upcoming release of the EIR.
