Gas tax holiday won’t do much to help Californians

Re “Biden calls for gas tax holiday” (June 23):

Joe Biden is like the ostrich who hides its head in a hole. He won’t face the reality that to reduce gas prices he needs to restart oil production in this country. BandAid solutions like suspending the gas tax at 18 cents a gallon is absurd when the price of gas is $5-$6 per gallon. Biden pledged to use renewable energy instead of oil in order to “save the planet” yet he’s willing to purchase oil from our enemies. Isn’t oil production by other countries harmful to the planet? Can Biden “save the planet” unilaterally? Get real Joe and start oil production; it may help you in the midterms. there a social interest in monitoring hate speech? With people being threatened for their politics, their nationality, gender, the color of their skin, the answer would seem to be, yes. Is that Big Brother barging into our lives? Big Brother is already there, but it comes in the form of multi-billion dollar corporations, not with the government concerned about hatred and vitriol.

Long Beach’s Queen Mary

Re “Queen Mary has new manager” (June 23):

Here we go again! Ever more pie-in-the-sky promises of an illustrious Queen being magically reincarnated by our befuddled-thinking city leaders. They believe the best way to spend money that could be used for worthwhile and desperately needed projects is to paint lipstick on a pig. Their delusional belief the golden egg-laying hen from Jack and the Beanstalk will fly over the Queen and drop a dozen for the city coffers just ain’t going to happen.

Gascón defends killer in El Monte cops case

Re “Gascón defends 2021 plea deal with man who later killed cops” (June 22):

George Gascón held a shameful press conference where he pathetically tried to defend his policies that allowed the El Monte double cop-killer to be out on probation instead of locked up in state prison. He repeatedly defended and made excuses for the killer. It was disgusting. Then he said we shouldn’t overreact. How dare he say that we should not overreact. He had the audacity to compare this situation to Willie Horton, the violent felon released by the Massachusetts furlough program. Really? Gascon has got to go.

The destruction of democracy in America

Re “Democracy in peril, Obama warns” (June 14):

I find it awkward when the two dominant parties in the American government are rehashing a similar motto: “Democracy is in peril.” Both party delegates are really voicing their own reality. Since the two players are participating in destroying a majorityruled government in America by not joining as one and battle the development that is obliterating America. The dreams of the two parties are being mistreated from powerful advocates in their respective parties along with the media and social outlets who act as a megaphone to the American people.

Both Democrats (currently holding all power in state government) and Republicans (who argue every little point, overlooking the big picture) have been engaged in the destruction of democracy in America today. If the American government cannot unify itself so the nation and the world will start to experience a good life, the world has a bigger problem than climate change and senseless wars.
