After being waived by Spurs, Gallinari agrees to join Celtics

The Boston Celtics agreed to a two-year, $13.3 million deal with veteran forward Danilo Gallinari, ESPN reported Sunday.

The 33-year-old Gallinari averaged 11.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game last season for the Atlanta Hawks. He was traded earlier this offseason to the San Antonio Spurs, who waived him and made him an unrestrict­ed free agent.

The deal with Boston includes a player option in the second season, ESPN reported.

Schauffle stays hot with Scottish Open victory

Xander Schauffele keeps making up for lost time. Winless for more than two years, Schauffele picked up his fourth victory in the last 12 months when he overcame a rough patch in the middle of his round with two key birdies and a par save for an even-par 70 to win the Scottish Open.

It was the first time the PGA Tour co-sanctioned a European tour event.

Schauffele's 8-foot par save on the par-3 17th at The Renaissanc­e Club gave him a two-shot lead, and the 28-year-old played it smartly from there. He took iron off the 18th tee to avoid trouble and wound up missing an 8-foot par try.

Schauffele finished at 7-under 273, one shot ahead of Kurt Kitayama (66).

• Trey Mullinax won the raindelaye­d Barbasol Championsh­ip at Nicholasvi­lle, Ky. for his first PGA Tour title, holing a 15-foot putt from the edge of the 18th green to beat Kevin Streelman by a stroke. Streelman's hope of forcing a playoff ended when his 9-foot birdie putt rolled right. He settled for par and a 67.

• Jerry Kelly won the Bridgeston­e Senior Players Championsh­ip for the second time in three years, breaking away with two late birdies to beat defending champion Steve Stricker by two strokes at Akron, Ohio.

• Tony Romo won the American Century Championsh­ip for the third time, beating Mike Mulder and Joe Pavelski with a 5-foot birdie putt on the second hole of a playoff at Stateline, Nev.

Jungels wins ninth stage at the Tour de France

A solo attack by Bob Jungels gave him his first Tour de France stage victory on the first Alpine finish of this year's race, while twotime defending champion Tadej Pogacar retained the leader's yellow jersey after the ninth stage. The 29-year-old Jungels set off on his own with almost 40 miles remaining of the mountainou­s 120mile route from Aigle in Switzerlan­d to the ski resort of Châtel les Portes du Soleil.

Blackhawks won't tender offer to center Strome

• The Chicago Blackhawks have decided not to tender a qualifying offer to center Dylan Strome, making him an unrestrict­ed free agent, according to a report from The Athletic. Strome, 25, tallied 48 points (22 goals, 26 assists) in 69 games last season for the Blackhawks.

• Alexander Georgiev signed a three-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche, completing the final step toward making him the defending Stanley Cup champions' starting goaltender in their title defense. Georgiev's contract is worth $10.2 million and carries an annual salary cap hit of $3.4 million. He replaces Cup winner Darcy Kuemper and is expected to play in tandem with veteran backup Pavel Francouz next season. Colorado acquired Georgiev from the New York Rangers on Thursday for third- and a fifth-round picks this year and a third-rounder in 2023.

Ex-English star Rooney agrees to coach D.C. United

• Wayne Rooney has agreed to coach D.C. United in Major League Soccer, a person with knowledge of the move told The Associated Press. The longtime English soccer star played for the MLS club in 2018 and 2019. Rooney resigned as English club Derby's manager last month after 18 months in charge.
