CLAUSEN SAYS...

Team's biggest strength: “Offensive and defensive lines will be our strength.” Team's biggest challenge: “Youth and inexperience, but will be fun to watch as the season goes along.”

Things were looking bleak this summer for Alemany. The program didn't have a junior varsity program last fall, lost nearly 20 seniors to graduation, and saw seven key players transfer out this offseason. The school's president resigned and the school's enrollment is at an all-time low, hovering between 600 and 700 students.

There was a serious concern that Alemany might not have a football team this fall, and if it did, how competitive could the Warriors be?

Clausen has the answer.

“We're going to be just fine,” he said. “We're still big up front and have talented running backs.” Alemany has roughly 75 players in its program, including a 55-man varsity roster, according to Clausen, who said there will also be a freshmen/sophomore team with roughly 25-30 players on it this fall.

That's a good sign.

Alemany had difficulty throwing the ball last year, but had no issues running the ball behind its huge offensive line with tailback Floyd Chalk, who rushed for 1,799 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Look for the Warriors to do more of the same behind big linemen Siaosi “Rhino” Tapaatoutai and Siale Uluave, but now the running backs are Paden White and Jeremiah Claiborne.

Junior CJ Ceron, a transfer from La Serna, is an athletic quarterback and is expected to start. Will his play be good enough to help Alemany win Mission League games? Only time will tell.

SCHEDULE Aug. 19:

Aug. 26:

Sept. 16: at Mission Viejo Sept. 23: at Lawndale Sept. 30: vs. Chaminade Oct. 7: at Sierra Canyon Oct. 14: vs. Notre Dame Oct. 21: vs. Serra

Oct. 28: at Bishop Amat 2022 W-L prediction: 4-5. Alemany will play a nine-game schedule this fall because a game with Oaks Christian fell out.

The Warriors will have a dynamic running game, but not as strong as what they had last year. The biggest question mark for Alemany is at wide receiver, where the positions will be filled with two-way players who are primarily defensive backs.
