Pederson agrees to deal with D-backs

-

Joc Pederson and the National League champion Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a $9.5 million, one-year contract that includes a mutual option for 2025.

The 31-year-old Pederson has been a consistent power threat for a decade, with 186 career home runs for the Dodgers, Cubs, Braves and Giants. The left-handed-hitting outfielder was an AllStar with the Dodgers in 2015 and San Francisco in 2022 but wasn't as productive last season, batting .235 with 15 homers.

He's won World Series titleswith the Dodgers in 2020 and Braves in 2021.

Pederson played his first seven big league seasons with the Dodgers (2014-20) and hit a career-high 36 homers in 2019.

It's the latest addition for the Diamondbacks, who have been active on the free agent market after a surprise run to the 2023 World Series. They also signed left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez to an $80 million, four-year deal and resigned outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to a $42 million, three-year contract.

Arizona also acquired third baseman Eugenio Suarez this offseason in a trade with the Seattle Mariners.

• Former Angels first baseman Jared Walsh signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers that includes an invitation to big league spring training.

Walsh, 30, who made his major league debut with the Angels in 2019, was an AllStar in 2021, when he had 29 homers and 98 RBIs while batting .277.

But he dipped to .215 with 15 homers in 2022, with that season ultimately ended by thoracic outlet syndrome surgery.

The left-handed hitter played only 39 games with the Angels last year after starting the season on the injured list because of debilitating symptoms that led to headaches and insomnia.

He elected free agency after the Angels outrighted him off their 40-man roster.

Texas listed Walsh as an outfielder, though only 28 of his 313 starts over the past five seasons with the Angels came in the outfield.
