George helps Yellow Jackets upset No. 3-ranked Tar Heels

Naithan George scored a go-ahead layup with 7.7 seconds remaining and host Georgia Tech upset No. 3 North Carolina 74-73 on Tuesday night to end the Tar Heels' 10-game winning streak.

RJ Davis, who scored a game-high 28 points for North Carolina (17-4, 9-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), won the race to a loose ball following a missed jumper by George and scored on a layup with 34 seconds remaining for a 73-72 lead.

Following a Georgia Tech timeout, George drove for the go-ahead layup.

Georgia Tech (10-11, 3-7) ended a three-game losing streak.

The Tar Heels called a timeout with 4.6 seconds remaining, but Davis missed a last-second jumper, prompting Georgia Tech fans to celebrate by rushing onto the court.

Kyle Sturdivant led the Yellow Jackets with 18 points. George had 16 points and Miles Kelly added 15.

SOUTH CAROLINA 63, NO. 5 TENNESSEE 59 >>

Ta'Lon Cooper hit a critical 3-pointer with 40 seconds left and scored 18 points, and B.J. Mack added 16 points to lead the visiting Gamecocks over the Volunteers. Myles Stute scored 13 points for South Carolina (183, 6-2 Southeaste­rn Conference).

Dalton Knecht finished with 31 points for the Volunteers (15-5, 5-2).

Hunter Dickinson and K.J. Adams Jr. each scored 16 points to lead a balanced scoring attack and the host Jayhawks defeated the Cowboys. Kansas (17-4, 5-3 Big 12) got 12 points from Dajuan Harris Jr., 11 from Johnny Furphy and 10 from Elmarko Jackson. Oklahoma State (9-12, 1-7) was led by JohnMichae­l Wright with 16 points.

Tyler Kolek hit five 3-pointers and scored a career-high 32 points to lead the visiting Golden Eagles over the Wildcats for their fifth straight win. Kolek rallied Marquette (16-5, 7-3 Big East) after it squandered a 20-point lead. With Villanova on fumes after a 34-10 run gave it the lead, Kolek connected on four 3s that sparked the Golden Eagles.

TJ Bamba and Eric Dixon led Villanova (11-10, 4-6) with 24 points apiece.

Domask and Terrence Shannon Jr. each had 23 points and Ty Rodgers had 13 as the visiting Illini (16-5, 7-3 Big Ten) beat the Buckeyes.

It was Shannon's fourth game back after sitting out six games because of a university-imposed suspension. Shannon is facing a rape charge in Kansas, but he was granted a preliminar­y injunction by a federal judge on Jan. 19 that forced Illinois to reinstate him to the team.

Jamison Battle scored 21 points for the Buckeyes (13-8, 3-7).

Trevian Tennyson scored 23 points, Micah Peavy added 18 against his former team and the host Horned Frogs beat the Big 12-leading Red Raiders. Tennyson made a tiebreakin­g 3-pointer with 17:21 left and TCU (16-5, 5-3 Big 12), which had trailed by 11 points before halftime, was ahead to stay.

Pop Isaacs scored 25 points and had nine assists for Texas Tech (16-4, 5-2).

Great Osobor scored 31 points to lead the host Aggies over the Spartans. Osobor had his third 30-point game of the season to help the Utah State (19-2, 7-1 Mountain West) win its third straight game.

MJ Amey led San Jose State (8-13, 1-7) with 14 points and Alvaro Cardenas

had 11.

DaRon Holmes II had 25 points and 12 rebounds as the host Flyers bounced back from their first loss in over two months to rout the Revolution­aries. Nate Santos and Koby Brea each added 17 for Dayton (16-3, 6-1 Atlantic 10), whose five-point loss to Richmond last Saturday ended a 13-game win streak and dropped the Flyers five spots in the AP Top 25.

Darren Buchanan Jr. paced GW with 13 points and eight rebounds for GW (14-7, 3-5).

Jalon Moore scored 23 points, Javian McCollum added 21 and the visiting Sooners (26-5, 4-4 Big 12) pulled away from the Wildcats down the stretch.

Kansas State (14-7, 4-4) didn't score for more than 8 minutes to start the game and finished 16 of 53 from the field (30.2%) and 4 of 28 from the 3-point arc. Tylor Perry led the Wildcats with 23 points.

Nique Clifford and Isaiah Stevens scored 20 points apiece as the host Rams (16-5, 4-4 Mountain West) held off the Aztecs (16-5, 5-3). Clifford added 10 rebounds. Reese Waters led San Diego State with 17 points and Lamont Butler scored 16.
