Bruins down Canucks in battle of NHL's best

Brad Marchand and Danton Heinen scored shorthande­d in the first period, and the host Boston Bruins beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-0 on Thursday night in a matchup of the NHL's top two teams.

Linus Ullmark stopped 17 shots for his first shutout of the season. Morgan Geekie and Pavel Zacha also scored, and Charlie Coyle set up both short-handed goals.

It was the eighth victory in 10 games for Boston, which tied Vancouver atop the league standings with 73 points.

Jacob Markstrom made 37 saves, Connor Zary and Andrew Mangiapane each had a goal and an assist and visiting Calgary defeated the New Jersey for its third straight win. Mikael Baklund, Kevin Rooney, Andrei Kuzmenko and Andrew Mangiapane also scored for the Flames. Ondrej Palat scored twice for the Devils.

Mathew Barzal and Bo Horvat each had a goal and an assist in host New York's victory over Tampa Bay. Nikita Kucherov and Brandon Hagel scored for the Lightning, who announced that defenseman Mikhail Sergachev will be sidelined indefinite­ly after undergoing surgery Thursday to stabilize fractures to both the tibia and fibula in his left leg.

Jonathan Marchessau­lt scored 19 seconds into the game, Adin Hill made 20 saves and visiting Vegas beat Arizona.
