Venus Williams a wild-card entry for Indian Wells tourney

-

Seven-time major champion Venus Williams and former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki have received wild card entries into the BNP Paribas Open next month.

The combined ATP and WTA event is March 6-17 at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Williams has been dealing with the lingering effects of a knee injury she suffered in her first-round match at Wimbledon last July. She lost in the first round of the U.S. Open in September and hasn’t played a tour match since.

The 43-year-old player will return to the Southern California desert for the first time since 2019, when Williams reached the quarterfinals.

Wozniacki took three years off to have two children. She won the Indian Wells title in 2011 and was a finalist in 2010 and 2013.

She returned to the circuit last August and reached the fourth round of the U.S. Open. She lost in the second round of last month’s Australian Open, a tournament she won in 2018. at Army 11⁄2 Boston University at UNC Asheville 101⁄2 Presbyterian Michigan St 41⁄2 at Penn St at Youngstown St 111⁄2 Robert Morris at Furman 241⁄2 VMI at Cleveland St 41⁄2 Milwaukee UNC Greensboro 41⁄2 at Citadel at Mercer 2 Wofford at Chattanooga 71⁄2 E Tennessee St at Seton Hall 11⁄2 Xavier Gardner-Webb 5 at Charleston Southern at Lafayette 91⁄2 Loyola (MD) at S Florida 81⁄2 Tulsa St. Bonaventure 41⁄2 at Fordham at Richmond 31⁄2 UMass at Notre Dame 11⁄2 Georgia Tech at High Point 141⁄2 S Carolina Upstate at Clemson 71⁄2 Miami (FL) at Green Bay 11⁄2 N Kentucky E Kentucky 111⁄2 at Chicago St at E Kentucky 11 Chicago St at Colgate 181⁄2 Holy Cross American 21⁄2 at Navy at Purdue-FW 11⁄2 Oakland at Detroit Mercy 51⁄2 IUPUI at Kennesaw St 51⁄2 Jacksonville at Queens 11⁄2 N Florida at Belmont 21⁄2 S Illinois at Bradley 131⁄2 UIC at LoyolaChicago 41⁄2 St. Joseph’s N Iowa 71⁄2 at Valparaiso at Murray St 31⁄2 Missouri St at Maryland 41⁄2 Iowa at Auburn 111⁄2 South Carolina at Arizona St 61⁄2 Oregon St UConn 231⁄2 at DePaul at Samford 61⁄2 W Carolina Tennessee 91⁄2 at Arkansas Utah St 71⁄2 at Wyoming UNLV 41⁄2 at Fresno St
