DOWN THE STRETCH

▪ The popular Brickyard Ride, trained by Craig Lewis, has been retired after suffering a minor injury during a workout at Santa Anita last month. “It was nothing serious,” Lewis told Victor Ryan of Santa Anita publicity. “But Father Time is catching up with him.” The 7-year-old son of Clubhouse Ride won 13 of 31 starts, including eight stakes, for earnings of $925,477. He recently finished second behind The Chosen Vron in the California Cup Sprint at Santa Anita on Jan. 13. “He’s going to take the year off and then go to stud somewhere next season,” Lewis said.

▪ Three Kentucky Derby prep races are on tap this weekend — the $400,000 Grade II Risen Star Stakes at the Fair Grounds on Saturday and the $400,000 Grade III Sunland Derby at Sunland Park and the Hyacinth Stakes at Tokyo Racecourse on Sunday. The Risen Star, which will include Track Phantom (7-2morning-line favorite) and Sierra Leone (4-1), will award the winner 50Derby qualifying points with 25 points going to the runner-up. The Sunland Derby offers 20 points to the winner and 10 to the secondplace finisher.

▪ Tickets for this fall’s Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar will go on sale April 22, the track announced Thursday. Del Mar will be hosting the two-day event — Future Stars Friday and Breeders’ Cup Classic day — for the third time Nov. 1-2. Fans can sign up to receive ticket information at breederscup.com/2024. The Breeders’ Cup includes 14 Grade I races — five on Friday and nine Saturday — worth $31million in purses. Many of the races determine Eclipse Award winners for the year.
