High Point’s late-quarter surge puts away Hampton

HAMPTON — Despite Nylah Young’s 25 points and 11 rebounds, the Pirates (10-8, 6-3 Big South) fell to the Panthers (8-10, 6-3) at HU Convocatio­n Center on Saturday.

Makayla Timmons’ 22 points, five rebounds and five assists also sparked HU, as did Laren VanArsdale’s nine points and seven assists. Only seven Pirates played.

Skyler Curran had 28 points and seven rebounds for High Point.

Christophe­r Newport 75, Salisbury 68

SALISBURY, Md. — Natalie Terwillige­r scored 16 second-half points, including eight in the final four minutes, as the Captains (15-4, 4-0 Capital Athletic Conference) beat the Sea Gulls (8-11, 1-3).

Terwillige­r hit 9 of 11 shots from the field and 5 of 6 free throws. Sondra Fan added 12 points for CNU.

Kylie Webb led the Sea Gulls with 18 points, hitting 6 of 9 from the floor. .

Emory & Henry 78, Va. Wesleyan 56

VIRGINIA BEACH — Kara Stafford hit 6 of 7 3-point tries and scored 25 points as the Wasps (15-3, 9-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) defeated the Marlins (5-13, 3-8) at Batten Center.

Jessica Jennings had 19 points, nine assists and three steals for VWU. Sabrina

Jones added 15 points and five rebounds, but the Marlins hit just 34.4% (21 of 61) from the floor.

No. 2 Baylor 87, Texas Tech 79

WACO, Texas — Juicy Landrum scored 20 points and had two 3-pointers in an early run that put Baylor ahead to stay, and the Lady Bears beat Texas Tech to extend their Big 12 record to 47 consecutiv­e regular-season conference wins.

Lauren Cox added 17 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Bears (17-1, 6-0 Big 12), who also have a national-best 50game home winning streak over the past three years.

Brittany Brewer had 24 points and nine rebounds for Texas Tech (13-4, 2-4).

No. 3 UConn 98, East Carolina 42

GREENVILLE, N.C. — Christyn Williams scored 26 points, Richmondar­ea native Megan Walker had 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Connecticu­t pulled away after the first quarter.

The Huskies went 15 of 25 from 3-point range, including 8 of 10 by freshman Anna Makurat, who finished with 24 points.

UConn (18-1, 8-0) improved its record in American Athletic Conference regularsea­son and postseason games to 128-0. ECU (3-16, 0-6) lost its 12th straight game and dropped to 5-100 all-time versus top-25 opponents.
