Re “2 killed — one by police — and 8 others shot in night of chaos at Virginia Beach Oceanfront” (March 27): I am very saddened by the events of Friday night at the Oceanfront. It is terrible on all accounts, and my heart and prayers are for the families of those who were taken much too early. I want to know what really happened so that it never happens again. This is my city, and terrible people have made terrible choices that reflect poorly on all of us. This craziness has to stop. What is wrong with people who think taking the life of another is acceptable? What makes anyone think the way to resolve issues is to pull out a gun and take a life?

I am pro Second Amendment, I am for the sanctity of all life, and I believe in peaceful, intellectual negotiation to resolve issues. I also support our police and believe the Virginia Beach police to be honorable people with integrity and a desire to serve and defend. Not allowing Virginia Beach police to do their job is wrong, and it will only create more problems and issues. If you have never been shot at, never been in a violent situation, or experienced the fog of violence, please stand aside and allow those who are best experienced to do their job. Stop making everything a political statement. Allow the commonwealth’s attorney to do his job. Allow the Virginia Beach Police Department to do its job. I want to find the truth, and we all deserve to hear it.
