Hank Sawyer’s Lake Taylor Titans, Lafayette and Poquoson wrap up region football titles Friday night to book tickets to the state semis.

Jeffrey Foster does a little bit of everything for the Lake Taylor Titans.

He runs, passes, kicks and even plays some defense.

It was that kind of night Friday for Foster, who scored three rushing touchdowns and threw for another to help lead the Titans to a 28-18 home victory over Churchland to win their third consecutive Class 4 Region A title.

“He really had a good game,” Lake Taylor coach Hank Sawyer said about Foster. “He threw the ball and ran the ball. He ran the option well.”

In a state semifinal, the Titans will host King George, which beat Monacan 28-14 to win the Region B title. King George is located outside Fredericksburg.

“It feels good, especially for the seniors because they want to get a little bit more tape for college and show people that they’re winners,” said Sawyer, who improved to 21-2 against Churchland. “It’s also good for the program considering we didn’t even think we’d have football back in December and January.”

Churchland scored first after the Truckers marched 64 yards on 11 plays. Running back Romero Hines finished the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run. The 2-point conversion failed, but Churchland led 6-0.

Lake Taylor answered quickly.

Chuck Fisher broke a 40-yard run to get the Titans started. Foster scored three plays later on an 8-yard run. His extra point gave the Titans a 7-6 lead.

The Titans’ defense set up the next touchdown when Tarreon Washington-Jacobs pressured Churchland quarterback Brandyn Hillman, who fumbled. The ball was recovered by Darious Speight on the Truckers’ 14.

Four plays later, Foster was in the end zone again with another 8-yard touchdown run to give Lake Taylor a 14-6 lead.

Lake Taylor added another score just before the half.

Facing fourth-and-5, Foster threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Camauri Hunter to give the Titans a 21-6 lead.

Hunter came up big again a few minutes later when he intercepted Hillman at the Lake Taylor 1 to stop a Truckers drive.

Churchland didn’t go away, thanks to Hines, who finished with 143 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

He scored on a 57-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 21-12.

Once again, Lake Taylor answered when Foster scored on a 5-yard touchdown run to give the Titans a 28-12 lead.

The Truckers cut into the deficit in the fourth quarter on Hines’ 1-yard run, but that’s as close as they would get as the Titans rolled.
