Princess Anne boys, Cox girls triumph in Class 5; Ocean Lakes gains sweep

Princess Anne freshman Armaan Chopra continues to impress.

The freshman won the Class 5 Region A race as he covered Chesapeake’s Bells Mill Park 5-kilometer course in 17 minutes, 11.60 seconds to lead the Cavaliers to their fourth consecutiv­e team title Saturday. First Colonial was second and Cox was third.

“I told the boys to not take it for granted,” Princess Anne coach Kevin Rhue said. “Winning isn’t easy and these guys have been putting in work since August to be ready for moments like today. We are excited to see what we can do at the state meet.”

Chopra is coming off an amazing indoor track season, in which he finished as the state runner-up in the 1,000 meters and helped the Cavaliers win the 4x800 relay.

“He’s a talented kid,” Rhue said. “There’s no limit to what he can accomplish.”

Princess Anne got help from William Griesmer, who was the runner-up, and David Dinardo (seventh), Luke Henkel (eighth), Jacob Ellis (10th) and Ian Bridges (11th).

Cox won the girls team title. The Falcons placed six runners in the top 13 spots, led by Lindsey Bruns (third), Carsen Johnston (fifth), Salya Brown (sixth), Annie Busch (10th), Morgan McKinley (11th) and Kaylin Seim (13th).

Princess Anne — led by the 1-2 finish of Logan Warden (19:28.50) and Peyton Culpepper — was second and Maury was third.

Class 6 Region A

Ocean Lakes swept the boys and girls region titles Saturday at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake.

The boys were led by Harrison Ladd, who finished as the runner-up to Franklin County’s Nathan Atchue.

James River was second and Grassfield was third.

The Dolphins got help from Aidan Bolger (seventh), Owen Lipps (13th), Nick Pham (18th), Drew Cavanagh (22nd), Nate Bushey (23rd) and Matthew

Lanzilotta (25th).

The girls were led by junior Aniya Mosley, who won the race in 19:32.20. The Dolphins got help from Maggie Reed (third), Austin Heft (fourth), Ryan Smith (fifth), Elise Richardson (sixth), Sophia Pommerenk (seventh) and Maggie Furco (12th).

James River was second and Kellam was third.

Class 4 Region A

Alex Murphy and Dylan Raney finished 1-2, respective­ly, to help lead Grafton to the Class 4 Region A boys title at Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield on Wednesday. Murphy won in a time of 15:55.12. Jamestown was second and Warhill was third.

On the girls’ side, Caroline Bauer and Claire Bauer finished 1-2 to lead Jamestown to the team title. Caroline won in a time of 18:28.64.

Grafton was second and Great Bridge was third.
