- Please sign guestbook at dailypress.com/obituaries

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ervin Ray Adams Jr, of Hayes a devoted partner, son, father, brother, and friend who left this world unexpectedly on March 1, 2023, at 49 years old. Ervin was a beloved father to his stepdaughter Alyssa Winston and two young sons, Jacob and Ervin Ray III (E-ray) Adams. Ervin bravely faced the challenges of single fatherhood until God blessed him with the love of his life, his “Sugar Pants'” Gabrielle Coates, whom he loved fiercely. Ervin was a hardworking small business owner who worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Owning his own business allowed him the freedom to hire individuals that may have been otherwise unemployable. He was in the habit of finding the person who needed a second chance, the person who was down on their luck and needed a break and he would disarm them with his charm and offer them a job and a friend. Ervin was a truly compassionate and caring individual, whose kindness knew no bounds. He had a natural ability to understand and empathize with others, and he was dedicated to helping those in need. He was a devoted son that shared a special bond with his mother, always making time to visit or call and check in and lend a listening ear. He also had a remarkable affinity for his brothers, whom he supported through every challenge and celebrated every victory. He was a pillar of strength and love to his family and friends and his loss will be deeply felt by all who knew him. His love for his family and friends came second only to his love and passion for his Lord and Savior. He was also a lover of music, enjoying music from almost all genres, from blues and folk to jam bands and rock. Ervin loved the outdoors. A favorite pastime was fishing and hanging out on the beach with his family. Ervin is preceded in death by his father, Ervin Ray Adams Sr, his sister, Jennifer Adams, his paternal grandmother Geraldine Miller, and his maternal grandparents, Garland and Hilda Hogge. Left to miss his toothy grin, his infectious laugh, his animated storytelling, his warm and generous heart, and his love and friendship are his mother, Mary Lewis, his “Sugar Pants'” Gabrielle Coates, his daughter Alyssa Winston, his sons Jacob and E-ray, his brothers Doug Adams (Amanda), Josh Deagle (Shanna), and Dustin Adams (Laura) A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends are also left to cherish his memory. He has left a profound void in our lives, and we will miss him. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 6, 2023, at Lighthouse Worship Center, 4299 George Washington Mem. Hwy. Hayes, VA 23072 from 11:00 am until 11:45 am and the Celebration of Life Service will begin at noon officiated by Pastor Ken Crammer. Interment will follow at Abingdon Episcopal Church Cemetery. Services under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home and Crematory.
